maybe when I can regularly afford $300+ days at the salon…Generally “you get what you pay for” rings fairly true. Unfortunately, in this case, even if I spend $120-$140 at the place 15 miles away, I come away with the same level of dissatisfaction as when I spend $40 around the corner from my house. I will just pay less to get the same crap until I am financially fit enough to bump it up a notch in true styling quality. Why the fuck can’t anyone deal with my basic requirements? -Thick and wavy hair -Do not own hairdryer(for all intents and purposes) -Some level of “sass” desired. Can’t they just cut it and then sell me the right products? Is this so damn difficult? I guess it is…maybe I am asking too much…perhaps women without hairdryers don’t deserve to look at all sassy …. It seems all the stylists around here can’t deal with styles that are not straight or curly – they ALL want to straighten my hair…what happened to wavy? fuck it. I’ll buy a great haircut later.

I definitely don’t LOVE my latest haircut – I suppose it is OK – I’m not really sure that I even like it. I don’t hate it – we just would never be friends in the real world – oh wait, this is the real world – we can work together – it is a bit time-consuming, at times annoying, agggravating, and somewhat uncooperative – but not altogether horrible or ill-meaning – just…not my friend
...is the appointment. Whether I love the cut or not, well that is yet to be determined…
I’ve got a mop of fine (but lots and lots and lots and lots of it) wavy/curly/straight/frizzy hair that is just a nightmare to get a good cut/style.
About a year ago – I finally found a stylist I love – and have spent an entire year with nothing but “good” hair days. I’ve got a cut and a style I love, that looks good on me and doesn’t require Herculean efforts in order to achieve it.
I believe the last haircut was in…March? It’s time – I generally dislike spending money and to spend it on something that may or may not turn out great (50% chance I’ll even like, much less LOVE it)...argh, rough for me – but this time my plan is to go to at least 2 local salons and ask about any stylists that PRIDE themselves on being able to cope magically with hair like mine (not all straight, not all curly, somewhat wavy, could be frizzy were it not for masses of “product”, thick and by the way I have no time for a freaking hairdryer in the morning as I have a 13 month old and will not get up 45 minutes earlier just to spend those 45 minutes fiddle-f*ing with my hair…) Wish me luck…I need to do this as I anticipate job interviews within the next few weeks…
SO I FINALLY got a hair cut I love.
Actually I got a Stylist I love!!!
She was honest and straight up with me. She told me what would look good and what wouldnt with my face shape (round) and hair texture (thick, curly).
She gave it to me straight up about what was wrong with my last hair cut. She said the guy before had cut my hair uneven, and with one short layer and thats why my hair always stuck up straight. I’ve been growing it out 6 months now, but she suggested I grow it out another 6 months, with regular trims every 5 weeks to get rid of the splits.
She evened it up for the most part and cut some longer texture/ layers in the back so that I can at least wear it down now.
Today Im wearing it down to work which is the first time I;ve done that in 6 months! I was REALLY getting sick of ponytails!!
All in all a truly fantastic cut with a GREAT stylist.
Its worth it to sit down with your stylist and tell them EVERYTHING before they cut your hair. I basically gave her my hair history, and she asked me some questions too. Its important to let her know all about you and your style so she/he can cut your hair to suit you!!
Be brave! Go for it!
SO huge change of plans!
Today at church I saw my friend Steph with a way different but seriously cute haircut. I asked her where she got it. She told me and then told me about the stylist. She said that her stylist (hailey) had looked at the pictures she brought in and flat out told her no she wouldnt cut her hair like that. She explained to steph about face shape and hair texture and talked her into a gorgeous faceframing bob style cut that looks PHENOMINAL on her square jaw line. She said that Hailey talked her through the whole cut, telling her why she was cutting each section the way she did and showing her how it would lay down, and how she should style it each morning.
This is what I need!! After 5 years of BAD haircuts, most of them leaving me in tears, I need a stylist who will give it to me straight up. I need a stylist who does her job, instead of letting me get my way cause im the customer… I dont let people come and tell me how to advertise, so why would I go to a salon and tell them how to cut my hair. SO I am cancelling my original wednesday appointment, and I made an appointment for Monday (TOMMOROW!!!!) afternoon!!!
I figured the quicker I get in, the less time I have to freak out and change my mind!
I finally figured out my camera too, so hopefully pictures will be posted… unless its horrendous… again… sigh...
here’s to hoping its utterly fantastic!!!
Im sucha CHICKEN when it comes to my hair!!!
I have really think, naturally curly reddish brown hair.
I have had some HORRIBLE haircuts, 2 or 3 where I have cried for hours after getting home!
The problem is that all hairdressers I have been to tell me the same thing: “I can cut curly hair, I have hair just like yours” or “my girlfriend/ mother/ sister/ friend has hair just like yours.” And then they proceed to butcher my hair giving it a horrible shape so that i cant straighten it and cant get it in a pony tail, or so short that its an afro!
I have been holding off on getting my hair cut for the past 7 months as it was recovering from another “Oh yes I am GREAT at cutting curly hair” and then he chopped horrible short layers that gave me a halo of frizzy hair around my crown and my face… I cried for 2 days…
I have been asking all my curly haired friends for references, and I finally got the courage to call and book an appointment with my friend Cara G-Ray’s Stylist. Its for Wednesday January 24th. I think I might challenge myself on this one so I dont chicken out…
sld1 Resting...at last.
After too many (15+) years of mid-length permed hair, short permed hair, highlights, etc. I’d had enough! It overwhelmed me. My hair just looked/felt damaged & was so high-maintenance.
Over a year ago I started having my stylist clipper/cut my hair very short. (A good bit shorter than I think she’d suggest.) It looks trim, neat & healthy. Sort of boyish but very perky! I do have a natural ducktail in the back so that’s a plus.
I do have it trimmed professionally & color it myself 1X every month. The morning routine is quick & easy. I love it…think it has become my ‘signature’.
