I prefer to pierce myself, but only because if I don’t, then I feel like I ‘cheated’ or something… If it’s in a spot that is difficult to do, then I’ll have a friend do it.. My friends CiCi and Klaudia did my nose piercing (two different occasions because the first time we used a needle to make the hole, but then my nostril swelled so we lost the hole before we could get the nose ring in. We had to wait two weeks before we tried again… it happened again that time too… so I have zero nose piercings right now… I’m a little sad because I think I might have to “cheat” this time…. but… oh yeah both girls have done nose piercings before so I’m not worried… they know what they’re doing…

again, get it right 10 months ago

like the first peircing in my nose, i did the second one on my own, but later felt that it was not in the exact spot i had wanted it to be :P… so i took it out (a while ago, before xmas actually) and have yet to try again. i wanted to make sure it was completely healed, and also that i was over my cold, before doing it again.
DISCLAIMER: not normally a good idea to remove studs from a peircing that isnt healed as infection can occur inside the flesh and not heal properly

I had my nosed pierced in 1997 for a short time (captive bead w/tigerseye) but had to remove it when I was accepted into dental school (BS Dental Hygiene). I was pierced a second time in 2002 (nose screw). Due to healing problems and two very painful repiercings on an adjustment visit (to shorten the screw after the swelling went down…the hole closed immediately), I decided to remove the jewelry. Since that time I found out that I am allergic to an ingredient in the aftercare product(s) which kept the wound raw and inflamed prohibiting the healing process. So, knowing my allergies and what sets them off means that I can try again. Love…LOVE nose piercings! - Can’t fathom why anyone would pierce anything else.

recent adventure, excellent experience 2 years ago

i equate emotional change and development with physical change, i like to mark milestones in a way that i can see and feel. the day that I declared my film major, I walked over to the local tattoo piercing outfit near campus and, despite severe reservations, put a hole in my nose. I hated the ring they pierced it with and decided to take matters into my own hands and change it to a screw I had bought. there was much bleeding (which had occured with the piercing and restarted when I messed around with it) but eventually i got the screw in. Several days later, severely emotionally distraught (completely unrelated to the nose) i noticed a tiny infection and abandoned the piercing.
The change i equate with this new piercing is the loss of my dog, that i had for almost eleven definitive years, as well as the need for reinvention of myself. I went to Graceland Tattoo in Wappingers Falls, NY, which was the most well organized, sanitary and all around positive establishment I’ve visited. They have a comprehensive care form they give to you, as well as options in piercing materials, available cleaning products for sale at the shop, and a guarantee on jewelry replacement. Allison, my piercer, changed her gloves four times during my procedure to assure complete sterilization. she talked me through the whole thing, I didn’t bleed at all (it took a good five minutes to staunch the regular bleeding from my first effort) and was even able to pierce through the old hole. I highly recommend her and the shop, and to finally have a nose piercing with which i am pleased is most rewarding.
