I like the canvas ones but I think keeping it mould free might be a problem as would leaving the laptop in it when you went out I have been to Goulburn Yurt Farm but when I went to buy a house I ended up in a boring old rectangular one I sold it I still hanker after a yurt

I think living in a yurt would be a really good experience. I would at least like to have one on some land, so I could spend time there.

Simplifying my life 3 months ago

As part of my desire to simplify my life I want to live in a Yurt. Not sure how it will handle Canadian winters but I cant help but think all will be well, after all the winters in Mongolia can hardly be a picnic right?

WHO HAS NOT WANTED TO DO THIS?!
I guess it comes as a part of my obsession and fascination with the country of Mongolia.

yurt dreams dont go away! 5 months ago

we’ve got plans! pie in the sky, but still plans! Ian can work trees, Jenny is a blacksmith, and I can sew. Sounds like a Yurt Making Party to me!!! (plans made at beltaine 08.)

Maybe a wood-paneled yurt 9 months ago

I still like the idea of these, but I don’t like the lattice interior of the canvas ones so much…it makes me feel a little caged. Maybe having lots of windows and skylight would help.

I like the designs shown here, and they appear to be a relatively inexpensive way to build a house. Now I just need a nice benefactor to give us a small piece of land in West Marin County and I’d be set. Right, that’s going to happen…

I want to live in a yurt too! wow. this is the first i have heard of this... 1 year ago

sounds like fun! and alot of hard work..but, my husband and i have wanted to do some crazy things..like live in a tent, on a boat, in a camper for awhile…i think that these yurts are beautiful….and would be nice to try it out for awhile..we are looking for some land to buy….i wonder if there are any people living in charleston sc in one of these yurts?? i look forward to learning alot more about this from you guys….this would be amazing for us as a family…we homeschool…and have always wanted to do something like this to get back to the basics…and i really believe that it would bring us so much closer to eachother….unless we drove eachother crazy first….nah.

I just purchased 5 acres of land out in west Texas. the home of my future Yurt! In the meantime, to raise money to buy the actual yurt, i’m designing and selling “yurt-wear”. :) www.theyurtopia.com

yurt dreams 1 year ago

i’d like to build a yurt on the land we will one day own. a retreat, a getaway. i’ll use it at festivals, retreats, camps… it could be our guest-house. it will be my special space. oh, and i’ve seen one with a hobbit-hole style door. got to have one like that!

Getting ready to move in next month 1 year ago

If you’d like to find out more about my experience, you can visit my blogs at www.myspace.com/yurtmama

I will be adding way more info after the process is complete. The deck is going up next weekend, and the yurt the first weekend in June.

I have taken down the yurt already, because I bought used. If anyone has questions about that, let me know!
