Well, first I’d have to start writing things—real things not silly little facebook or 43things stories. Then I’d need to enter a contest or two or three. I’d need to take the ability to write a bit more seriously and I’d need to make my inner editor sit on the back shelf until I was finished “creating.”

I’ve already won a french poetry contest for students. My french literature teacher nominated me for it and I won among 20 contestents. The first prize was a ticket to Paris ( I live in Beirut) which is great because Paris is my favourite city to visit.
I’ve also submitted a short story to an important and renowned international contest for young french speaking writers ( 16 to 27 years old). The kind that would launch your career. I didn’t win, but I was selected as one of the 48 semi-finalists among 388 contestents. I can’t say I wasn’t decepointed and really depressed for a few days, but then I realised some people in this competition were really older than me ( I am 16), and that it was my first accomplished short story so I dealed with the fact that I should really improve and practice to become a good writer and that I was just in the beggining of my path, with a loooot to learn and to work on… I’ll try it again next year anyway…
Now, I have sent an other short story to a smaller, local contest. There are between 15 an 20 contestents, aged 17 to 25. Its not a really “important” contest in a professional meaning but some members of the jury are impressive people, specially one, a literature professor, I have heard a lot about him and watched some of his conferences. Seriously, the guy is a genius and to have his recognition would be the biggest reward I could dream of. Way more important thant the 600 $ prize. Anyway, I’ll probably have the results in september.
