Never guessed my knowledge retreat would take this form, but I’m headed to the kitchen! I’m totally pumped that I’ll be staging at Blue Plate next week! Awesome that I get to learn from one of the best chefs in the city at one of the hottest restaurants.
can’t wait. Change the way people look at food

Next week, I’ll have the outstanding opportunity to dine with a successful restauranteur and learn about the restaurant management business, specifically with regard to the franchise business. Very cool…

I had the privalege of meeting Jeff Hawkins, inventor of the Palm Pilot, founder of Handspring and Numenta yesterday. How incredible it would be if he would be willing to participate in my knowledge retreat. It seems to be sort of a continual process in a way, however, as he’s going to take a look at my hypothesis about non-expertise and give his thoughts.
Very cool.

While the structure that I’d like to use is still evolving (sbux? print? etc?) I did have the opportunity to talk with Thom, a very successful architect, builder, and entrepreneur. We talked about the new movement in prefab and how some of the design and affordability elements might be harnessed for on-site building. And best of all, he added some insights I hadn’t thought of before, including 1. the fact that you need a relatively accessible lot to accept delivery of a pre-fab home, and 2. he called in to question the scalability of such designs as families grow. A great informal start to my personal knowledge retreat.
