I find embracing the inner geek is great fun. And because of it, I score a lot of free computing gear from people who upgrade. Generally I give it to a group I volunteer with to fix old computers and give them to community groups, but if it’s really cool I keep it for myself (like my wireless keyboard or Amstrad luggable, yes vintage computers are cool).
It also helps with meeting like-minded people – other geeks see that you’re like them, and so they’re more open than if they didn’t think you were as geeky as they are.
