How I did it: Foolishly, well thought out, but still foolishly. A friend and I were on a cross country road trip and stopped at the big ditch. We spotted the Plateu Point trail and on a whim we.... I..... decided we were going. Now we are expereinced outdoorsmen and not against hiking at all. We had equipment, water, food, an extensive FAK and the will. What we lacked was preparation. We didn't go all the way down.&n… Read how I did it…

Yesterday my father and I put together a preliminary travel plan to take a hiking/camping trip to the Grand Canyon. We’re doing it!

I’m doing a hike in Flagstaff this weekend and will keep doing one each weekend to get back in shape so I can realize this goal.

A friend and I hiked to the bottom, spent 2 nights there and hiked out. it was awesome. I want to do it again, and every year for the rest of my life.
when we were at the bottom the stars were amazing, there was no moon, you could see the milky way jetting across the black sky. Satellites shot through the stars like super sonic jet planes..
we hiked to ribbon falls, i want to take a different trail every time i go.
I love to hike, and I’ve heard that hiking the canyon is awesome. I need to make time to do this someday, before I am too old.
I’ve heard you cannot truly appreciate the majesty of the Grand Canyon until you’re standing on the ground floor looking up.

We didn’t take a donkey down or anything, we just moseyed around. Hmm, now I know how to spell ‘moseyed’. Fun.
In 2008 I will sell the condo in STL, sell all the property at Mystic Cove, sell the spec house, Jim will secure job with sustainable revenue stream, I will change jobs to GE
i’ve done it twice (once at 13 and once at 20). As long as you start early when its cool (unlike me and my dad who did it August in the afternoon) and take it easy it’s so much fun! No matter what you have in your pack you can squeeze in a camera… we didn’t and i regret it because while we looked like total garbage (lots of dust and sweat) the pictures would have been amazing! I’d recommend booking a dorm in advance just because carrying camping equipment down might not be so bad but carrying it back out ( and you have to carry EVERYTHING out) is just not worth it. And send postcards in the bottom cause the kids love the postmark that says it was carried out of the canyon by a mule :)
