I heart xmas 12 months ago

I really am enjoying the run up to Christmas this year – I’m even boogying along to the xmassy tunes ‘drifting’ up from downstairs this otherwise quiet weekend morning, when usually I’m a bit of a musically bah-humbug! Two days back home of Johnny Mathis? I can take it!! LOL!

It’s hardly a big secret, but I think the trick is always just to not stress about it all. It’s a once-a-year occasion to have some fun – NOT to fret about perfect presents, or cost (don’t go overboard, folks!) or anything else. This year-end has brought enough other stresses for me, so the chance to play with some sparkly paper, eat too much cranberry sauce, and do daft things has been just lovely.

Just a few days left now: two days of work to get as much finished off as possible (and I feel nice and pre-holiday motivated!), presents to finish wrapping, cards to (urm, make and…) post. A bit of tidying up, and then a drive back home to three days of eating, drinking, smiling and kicking back.

    Happy holidays, everyone!

    The Tree!! 12 months ago

Okay, so I go home for Christmas and don’t really do much with the flat. This year, though, I fell for this little gold wire tree (the truffles it was filled with were rather yummy, too!) and mini baubles to fill it with :)

    Christmas shopping! 12 months ago

Afternoon off work, spent meandering around shops topping up on the xmas pressie stock :) Admittedly, most of it was for me, but there were some card making supplies (ahem!) and a few bit’n’bobs for other people. Yay! :)

Walking in a winter wonderland! 12 months ago

There’s something magical about really frosty days. I went out quite late – about 3pm – and the frost was leaving a haze in the air! By the time I headed home an hour and half later, it was dark and cold enough that my face felt frozen enough to fall off two seconds after walking out of the shop :)

    Wrapping paper! 13 months ago

    Gorgeous, glittery wrapping paper!

Actually, it’s for making cards rather than wrapping presents – but Christmas cards, so still counts! :P

The ‘festive’ moment was carrying the stuff home on the bus, via the shops. Got more than a few looks! :)

    Christmas lunch! 13 months ago

Just been tasked with organising the team Christmas lunch – definitely something festive about selecting your first turkey dinner of the season! :)

    Christmas Fayre! 13 months ago

Despite my previous entry, it still seems terribly early for Christmas Fayres – perhaps I needed to start this goal even earlier ;)

‘twas very pretty – nice to have a bit of glitz and sparkle at lunch time. I bought… cookie cutters! A tree, a holly leaf, and a gingerbread man :)

I know, it's kinda early! 13 months ago

But I figure I can take it! ;)

Really, it’s hard to avoid – the shops are full of trees and other decorations – and better, I think, to slowly go with it rather than do the ‘bah humbug’ I usually manage ;)

If nothing else I hope this (a) means I get my xmas shopping done sooner rather than later, and (b) helps me get more in the mood to make those cards! :)

I’ve been in the Christmas Spirit since early October. How pathetic is that!

    Christmas Spirit 2 years ago

So, I took the leap and started forcing the Christmas activities. I had to get a box of items together that I no longer put up for Christmas, I had a person coming from Freecycle and they were coming this afternoon. Honestly, after a couple hours of unpacking Christmas items and processing the good memories that came with those items, I started to feel better. Of course, there are always going to be those items that cause sadness, but even the sadness comes from a place of love and missing a person that is no longer in my life in the same capacity that they were.
