I went.
The day I was booked to go it was cancelled due to unsettled weather. I guess most people would have spent most of the trip feeling queasy. Understatement. So I booked to go again this morning and guess what:
We didn’t see one friggin whale!
And most people felt seasick!!
But we did pick up some sea litter. Didn’t even see dolphins or seals. But we saw a couple (literally) of birds. It was just the wrong day and you can’t book Mother Nature.
The type of whale we would have seen (at any other day or time) was the sperm whale which I have to say is a very unusual shape.

I’m going away tomorrow and will be going whale watching this weekend. I’m so looking forward to it now that I’m all booked to go. I just hope I see one.

I’ve decided to do this at the end of the month. There’s a long weekend coming up and since I won’t have any holidays available for a while I should make the most of public holidays when they’re around. Hopefully I will get to see a whale!

I went on a day cruise up the St Lawrence river in Northern Quebec in late summer a few yrs ago. We saw minkes and belugas as well as seals. They was a blue known to be in the area but we never spotted it. It’s rare to see them actually breaching (leaping up out of the water) but it is very cool when you see them (and their blow holes) about the boat.

Did this while I was traveling around Australia. Spent 2 and a half hours on the boat somewhere near Perth and only saw one whale the whole time. It was worth it just for that though, and I got to spend time with my uncle Andy who lives out in Oz and decided to join me for this trip.

My husband and I were going to take a train ride on the Maine Coast, but couldn’t find the depot. We ended up driving a little further down and going whale-watching instead. In spite of it raining a little (which it did all week), it was quite a lovely boat ride. We got a pretty close view (15 feet) of a couple of fin whales, along with a sighting of a group of porpoises, a couple of seals that came reasonably close to the boat, and a whole bunch more sunning themselves and playing on a group of rocks.
Definitely worth doing.
