I used to dance on my way to work. Now I drive and live 8 miles away from work. But, the other day I decided to dance down my road. So I got my headphones and set a goal for 1.1 miles, then I’d turn around and come home.
I wasn’t as in shape as I used to be after 3 years of forgetting my old joy, but I got through two whole songs and then simply…walked to the beat. Figured it was better than giving up and I started out that way, so it would only serve to strengthen my lungs and muscles and eventually lead to the more intensive dancing I so miss.
Before I knew it, I had walked 4.2 miles to the end of the road. I turned to come back and walked another half-mile when my husband drove by and saw me. Thankfully, because I was pretty tired by that time, and my muscles were annoyed. But I felt great inside and know I could have made it home out of sheer will power if he hadn’t come along. He’s addicted to physical activity himself, so he’s proud of me and my intentions to become more physical.
Yeah, I love dancing. If I have to satiate myself with walking to the beat until my lungs have reacquainted themselves with fresh air, so be it. I’m doing it!
It’s easy to stay at my computer and never move. With my IPod I can turn on something that makes me want to get up and dance, even for just a few minutes. It really helps if I go til my heart rates stays up, then I can go back to work at the computer refreshed.

I’m very interested in ballet and think it’s something I could excell at (I’ve got balance and flexibility at least) but I’m nervous about taking a class. I’m twenty four, and no I don’t expect anything to come from it, I just think it’s something I’d enjoy. I’m just unsure about fitting in. Most dancers have been in classes since they were children, so I don’t know. Still, I think that’s a new goal to shoot for; locate ballet class and courage to enroll in it. =)
But who the hell cares?
When I go to the club, I demand attention, and I’ve danced with the best..
And I’m not one of these tiny bitches either.

I practiced 2 days ago with my dance partner. I had a lesson yesterday with my teacher. And I am going social ballroom dancing this evening.
What a fun goal!!
