At Barnes and Noble today for the Olympus Evolt-510. Mine is the 520, but I think it should be fairly relevant; from what I understand, there aren’t many big differences between the two.

I’ve had this camera for two weeks now, and still haven’t had the patience to sit down and figure out all of its features. It’s a digital SLR – an Olympus Evolt-520. There are so many numbers on the screen and buttons and symbols. It’s a little frustrating, when all I want to do is take a nice picture, but I am so excited to learn more about the art of digital photography.
Finally got a chance to take a photography class for my school’s january term—a full month of photography all day every day. It was exhausting but I learned so much about how film photography really works. We were working in a real darkroom and I was using my Canon A-1 that I got a few years ago. It’s from the early 80’s but it works great…now I can continue with photography as a hobby, I’m so glad I got this opportunity since film photography is really fading out quickly…
tknight is t'done t'day
Is to learn how to use it…
Digital cameras make this job far easier than where film was the only available choice…
Like any other activity worth doing, the answer is LOTS of practoce.
The Zeiss Contaflex, the Bell&Howell Dial 35, the Kodak Instamatic…
Then the digitals…
The Sony Mavica, the Olympus C-3040, the Canon S2IS and the Canon A610…
What I learned is that the camera you USE is the one that will give you the best results, because you will learn to see reality as the camera does, and eventually you learn how to make the image record what YOU saw, the WAY you saw it…
very cool!
This thing took some time to learn, but man my pictures sure are looking better. Definitely had to invest in a good lens. Fortunately the 50mm 1.8 is only $80. Check out my flickr photos – and search the tag for EOS-20D or 50mm. The camera rocks.
Just got a 20D and it is going to take a lot of practice. Have started on the manual, but you really need to learn the software as well.
Planning to shoot in auto mode for the first week just to get comfortable with it.
I got a REAL camera a few years ago for christmas, but never had the chance to learn how to use it… but I want to!
I suppose I should read the instruction manual that came with the camera, LOL. And practice taking photos.
^A little treat for you photo lovers. Just something I captured a long time ago.
Photography will be my either second major or minor in college, depending on which one I go to.
It’s release. It’s a way of life. It’s how I see everything. I frame everything & see it as if it were on paper or on a negative. This is why I enjoy long car rides or walking…it’s like flipping through a photo album.
catherine's daughter is remembering the foundation of our country, new goal
which I bought a couple of years ago. Several months ago I read the instruction manual and learned a lot!!! There are different modes you can use, for example red eye, self timer, etc. The coolest is a night view. Late one late night I woke up from my sleep and happened to look out my balcony window. I found it was snowing so I decided to check out this night mode and the picture shown is the result. Pretty neat, huh?

Heather asks,
“I don't have the instruction manual for my camera, so does anyone know of a good beginners book for photography? I just need to learn the basics, and then can experiment from there.”
