this is a great tool for jump starting my personal journal and also for helping work through some tough issues via writing.
How I did it: I have studied for years, but not consistently. Now that I have this as a goal, I would study some every day. I won't say I know them, but I am on the path of knowing more each day, and that's what counts.
This has also helped me to connect with the Norse gods and goddesses, and I am developing a connection with Tyr.
Lessons & tips: There is a lot of junk out there. Don't believe anything about a blank rune, as that is made up new age nonsense. I found that Uncle Thor has a wonderful blog and series of books that explain things very well, and I also really like Freya Aswynn.

There are other good book folks too, but these are the ones I am concentrating on.

at least 15 minutes every day. More and more is sinking in.

Okay, I’m writing this down. I’ve given up TV, news, and surfing the internet too much. Now this is something I can do with that extra time. I dabble, but I want to know.

making a little progress, but spring/summer isnt the right time for divination so i’ll happily wait untill the darker months return and this is more in tune with the season and spirit.

i’ve been meaning to get a better knowledge for a long time now. i’d collected my rune stones slowly. i’d asked friends about them, and gathered a reading list.
a little while ago i unexpectidly found my childhood paper runes i’d made. wow!
then 2 weeks ago, i found Runelore and Futhark both by Edred Thorson on sale in my favourite esoteric bookshop for only £5.00 each !!! both on my reading list. a sign, surely.
so i’ve begun reading, but havn’t marked up my own runes yet. but i’m very happy to have begun walking this path again.
llong is growing slowly but surely
...but I can finally say I’ve begun to understand the runes, in a number of their potencies and uses.

Futhark: A Handbook of Rune Magic by Edred Thorsson
Nordic Runes by Paul Rhys Mountfort
Taking up the Runes by Diana L. Paxson
I would recommend them in that order. It’s 800 pages total, but it you do the practices as explained, you will be on your way!
Shortly after my entry on Saturday I decided to do my daily reading and I ended up with Raido in a merkstave position.
After meditation the exact words I wrote in my book were: “Bad time for travelling: delays, accidents, breakdown. Crisis, reigidity. Plans are likely to be upset.”
Knowing I was about to drive over to my friend’s house 15 miles away I checked the car over, and even went online to see if there were any accidents/road works I could avoid.
Nothing – for once it was a really easy journey!
So, I got to her house and ended up taking her horse out for a ride round the fields. He’d not been ridden for 5 weeks and was full of the joys of “something” and bucked three times. I stayed on for the first two, but the third found me lying in agony, badly winded on the ground. I fell on my right side/back, but had to roll out the way because he almost landed on my head!
After 4 hours in casualty it turns out I’ve got an accute soft tissue injury to my back and left arm, a severely bruised left elbow, three broken ribs and a fractured colar bone.
My ex bought me some beautiful Runes, and I haven’t used them for 3 years (since we split up) because it just felt “wrong”.
However, I’ve decided to start again with them. I’ve cleansed them and feel a lot more positive about them (if that makes sense).
I’ve also dragged out all my old books on Runes and the Norse Gods and I’m going to really throw myself into re-learning them, and rebuilding my relationship with them.
The plan is to contemplate the day ahead, and take a reading each morning and just get used to them. Then I can work on doing advanced readings.
