How I did it: I applied for a job in hawaii to work on a cruise ship. The process took about 8 months, but it was worth it. I did not like the job. But I lived in hawaii and sailed the islands for almost 1 year. I made friends from all over the world and I felt at peace with myself being out in the ocean. It was a great place. How I did it: Found good plane tickets with Hawaiian, a very nice hotel for a cheap price, and took 3 days off work. First we chose the island, Oahu. Then we made a list of all the things we wanted to visit there. We prioritized the list based on the things we wanted to see most, then grouped them by location. To Maui for a week in january 2007, AWESOME!! We stayed at the Napili Kai Beach Resort which was pretty cool – I recommend it. They’ve put a webcam on the beach next to the hotel so your relatives can go on their Internet site & catch sight of you on the beach and be terribly JEALOUS!
Yet a week is wayyyy to short to enjoy all the possible things to do. I advice anybody who goes there either to go 2 wks or to plan all the activities in advance so you pick the one that most interest you and don’t lose time on scheduling activities.

I may get to kill two birds with one stone. My sister is going to be stationed in Hawaii for a few years. I may get to visit her there. Maybe within a year or so for vacation. :)
