I have to get through the blues first.

I am still practicing an hour a day and seeing my teacher once a week, but I have to go through the process of re-learning my circle of fifths so that I can play any chord in any inversion, anywhere on the keyboard without thinking about it. I am still working on finger strength so each one can work independently of the others. I am just going to continue to focus on the blues, and now my teacher has thrown in some simple classical excercises so I can get used to that style.
i have been playing classical piano for 8 years of my life, and i really want to learn a style of music that won’t bore most people to death, i have started with some simple blues scales and other things like that, but i’ve still got a ways to go!!
Mimzy is getting ready to pack.
I’ve started learning chords such as 7ths and 9ths. My goal is to audition for jazz band at my school in December next year and make it.
I took a Jazz Piano class this quarter. I may re-take it in the Spring term as well (it’s repeatable). I did very well for the first half, but then life got in the way and I didn’t practice as much. I kind of bombed my final. Still, I’d do it again in a heartbeat!
I bought a jazz chord book of exercises. Hopefully that will help tranlate what of know of chords from my left hand to my right. I’m hoping!
I have a very weak musical theory background and had very few lessons on any instrument. Now I’m getting into salsa dancing and the mambo music I find I don’t have enough knowledge of harmonics to be able to express myself musically in a convincing way. I’d quite like to patch up that hole.
