For 11th grade History, our teacher made us read “All the President’s Men”, a 1974 telling of how Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward managed to figure out the Watergate scandal. BLAH! We all hated it, and every day, we said when we were done we were going to burn it (as we had claimed but never achieved with numerous other books, Pride and Prejudice – this means you) well, the last day of school came and all us suddenly-seniors decided to have a barbecue as soon as school let out in the park. We cooked Hamburgers, hot dogs, and this book!
Well, word of this got to our friends in the now-junior class, and they kept bringing it up to the teacher. She decided not to teach that book “till everyone that knows about that burning has graduated!” lol. I think that’s amazing.
Though, for the record, I do not condone book burning for other purposes. This book was just endlessly boring and forced upon us. Burning books cause they don’t agree with your religion (like I dunno, Harry Potter or something) for example, is not as justifiable.
