had my sis and bro-in-law over for an impromptu dinner the other night
How to have more dinner parties
How I did it: had plenty of supplies/food to ride out the hurricane. simply texted neighbours in my building inviting them over. they even all pitched in with doing the dishes.
Lessons & tips: it's not a big deal. most people appreciate a homecooked meal.

Have the new neighbour over for… lasagna. I know I always make lasagna but everyone loves it and mine is just devine!
Had the in-laws over for a casserole – spur of the moment idea but again, nice to have people at my dinner table
I want to have dinner parties! Never had one and they look so cool on the movies and TV.
Don’t get me wrong though, I love cooking and usually get to do all the cooking at big family dinners, you know Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving etc
after the big success of our cheese and wine last night. I am excited about entertaining at home now. Next one will be about 8-10 friends over for lasagna.
cheesy for sure – so retro that its almost cool. Got 8 friends coming over next weekend. This will be fun
We had SL and CL over for burgers and BBQ chicken. Beer, Ice-cram and good times. It was very informal but felt so great to be able to entertain and sit on our back porch on a cool summer evening. Here’s to many many more
It was my best friend & next door neighbour’s birthday yesterday. I’m horribly, horribly busy so, even though I wanted to throw a decent dinner party, the best I could do was whip up a cake. (Not that it wasn’t an unbelievable cake – I raided the recipe page on Godiva’s web site!) We knocked on doors and gathered the neighbours, everyone managed to throw together a dish or dig out a bottle of something nice, and in 20 minutes we’d assembled a nice cosy crowd and catered an entire meal. I guess that’s more the definition of a pot luck than a dinner party, but it had all the elements of good food and excellent company that I could possibly want from a dinner party. That, I could and will do more often.
