write my senior thesis

I’m going to the university library tomorrow morning to research the collection of diaries. I’ve never worked with archival sources before, so this will be a new experience. Looking forward to it. . . .

I’ve located a diary and a letter collection from a Civil War soldier. Still waiting to hear back from a librarian at the archive. I want to make sure no one’s published on these sources before. :-)

I have one more final exam before I am officially a senior! This also means that I now have less than a year before I have to turn in a 90-page history thesis.

Yay. First step is to pick a topic and find sources. I’m interested in studying llinois Civil War history but will have to see what sources I can track down first. :-)

I’ve ordered some books from the library, so they should be waiting for me when I get home from school in a few days. I also have a few leads on some newspaper and letter collections that could be useful.

Here goes.

I just got my senior thesis adviser, Bettina Aptheker, so in the next quarter or so I should start my thesis on issues in library science and feminism….not entirely sure yet.

I’m technically a senior, well I’ve been one for a semester or so and I’ll be one for another two years. WOOT! I could tell you the story how I was lost and now I’m found so the end is near, but I won’t. The story, I have my topic pretty much down. And I have a ton of research. Now I haven’t really read any but to be honest I don’t have to write this for another two years. The fact that its in the forefront of my mind bothers me. And i fear I’m putting too much into it and that after two years I’ll be burned out…I mean this isn’t my PhD, its for a friggin’ BA in History. So I’m really just not going to touch my research until my capstone class in two years. I say this but I know I’ll look at it and maybe thats better because I’ll slowly digest all the information.

Well mine was actually pretty good and well received. What I hate is that it is the last major intellectual effort I made so far. Soon my PhD thesis will replace it. :-)

Well, it’s not as good as I would have liked. (I’m a little nervous about the fact it turned out a page shorter than it was supposed to be, but I simply ran out of things to say.) I can’t get used to the feeling that I won’t have any more school work to do for a whole year. :-(

I have a draft due on Friday and four pages written. (Yep… that’s all I have to show for probably over 100 hours of work at this point, not including reading my primary sources.)

So, someone cheer me or comment on one of my posts or something so I can have an excuse to distract myself! Please.

So my advisor and I finally agreed on a topic… the last week of March. So, I’m working pretty frantically right now trying to get him a draft before the end of April. We’ll see how it goes.
