I have the phone number of the person who works for the county who is responsible for the land I want to use for the garden. Whenever I call, I get an answering machine. I guess I will ahve to leave my phone number to contact him.
I was talking with my neighbors yesterday about the other community garden and one of the couples in the area has a plot there. They love it. Their yard is on the edge of a steep canyon so they do not have any real yard. The garden allows them to grow veggies.
I need to get the above ground beds ready so I can plant some fall crops. The weather wants to cool off (but it is supposed to be 100 later in the week). Perhaps I will invite some of my neighbors over to discuss above ground beds? They have a lot of knoweledge and they are very nice people. That would be a nice idea. 4 months ago

And today I stopped by the local community garden that has been in existence for 20+ years. I ran into a friend from work and she showed me her plot. They are quite large plots, bigger than I thought. I looked at the facilities and checked the waiting list – I’m #25 out of 63. So there is definitely an interest if I can get the city to provide a lot.
I asked about pests since gophers are tearing up my yard. And sure enough, all the critters that attack my yard also attack the gardens – raccoons, skunks, possums and gophers. For now I think I will work on building raised beds with gopher proof bottoms and growing plants in my yard. This goal may take quite some time to accomplish – but it would be wonderful if I were successful! 5 months ago

Altadena has a community garden that is very popular. Pasadena needs one too! There is a committee to start one already but they haven’t found suitable land. I have located a few potential lots that are owned by the city. I want to follow through and actually get a lot to use as a community garden. 5 months ago
