Reading the Bible in a year 19 months ago

I not only want to read the Bible in a year but also take the time to “chew” on the words and let them sink in. The closer I read the words and take my time the more I get from it. I would love to hear from people who want to do the same at solomonschest@gmail.com.

Still working on this 23 months ago

I didn’t not keep up with my reading this year. Actually, I did better in my 365 days challenge (a photo a day, every day for 365 days). I lasted over 130 days on that one, but this one has been so much more challenging.

I am ashamed to say that I haven’t even read every day, let alone read enough to finish the Bible in a year.

However, I’m not going to live in the past. The great thing about being a believer is that God’s grace is new every morning, and He is faithful, even when we are faithless.

So, I start again today. And, Lord willing, will be in a good enough “groove” to continue through the new year and beyond!

Yay!

So in love with Christ! 2 years ago

I will do this for Him! But I wonder something- what do I read of His when I’ve read all of the Bible? I mean I am a young woman who just got into ministry! Hmm… Guess I’ll have to let Jesus lead me where I need to go! :)

Back, and in full effect 2 years ago

So, after a 43things hiatus, I’m back. I had forgotten what a motivational tool this could be if I had others who had the same or similar goals.

That being said, I am back on with this goal. Last year, I stayed pretty consistent in my Bible reading. However, there were a few months that I allowed myself to get distracted. This year, I am current with my Bible reading. I’d like to keep this up, so I’m trying to come up with a strategy. This is what I’ve come up with so far:

  • At least 2/3 days at work, I will read my Bible at lunch.
  • I will not go to bed without reading at least some portion of the daily reading, if not all of it.

Do you have the same goal? Let me know what you’re doing to help you stay on track!

So far, so good 3 years ago

I’ve read a little each day, and I am current as far as my reading schedule goes! Yay! My mom convicted me (unknowingly) the other day. She was talking about how another family member wants to do all this inductive study, but just to be deep, not to really follow Jesus. And here’s where she convicted me:

Mom: “She (the family member) wants to study, but just to get knowledge. That doesn’t matter. You can have all the intellectual understanding, but that’s not what’s important. I read because I adore Him (Jesus).”

Wow. I read for different reasons- yes, I want to love God more. But recently, it’s been to keep myself from sin! I want to make sure that I read in adoration of Jesus, because He is worthy!

Time adjustment 3 years ago

I had an off month of reading in December. Sometimes I let the cares of this life stifle me. So, I started reading on schedule again in late December. I have read everyday of January thus far. I know; it’s only the 15th, but it’s a good start, don’t you think?

Read the Bible in a year 4 years ago

Two years ago, our pastor challenged us to pick up the One Year Bible and to commit to reading it. Jack said that we weren’t to beat ourselves up if we missed a day, or that we had to “make up” the days we missed. Often, that just makes starting up again even more daunting. So, he recommended that we just read the passages for that day.

So, that’s what I’ve done. I did pretty well this year, except I didn’t read as much in February, April, August, or October. I’ve read more this year than I did last year, but I would really like to step up in my commitment. God’s word is life. It’s truth. It’s what keeps us from the lies that we tell ourselves; it’s what keeps us from foolish mistakes. The word of God is “living and powerful, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to both the bone and marrow.” Jesus himself is the Word, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, full of grace and truth.” John 1:1,14.

So, I want to read the Bible in a year. It’s not so that I get a gold star, or to say that I’m super holy. I just know that I need more of Jesus in my life, and for that, the bible is the key. I am not waiting for January first to begin. I’m starting today-November 11, 2005. It’s time to stop putting things off to tomorrow, because tomorrow never comes. I am alive today, and today I begin. Who wants to join in???
