Do my photography

So I moved to NM because this land moves me like no place I have ever lived before. I have never been much interested in landscape photography, but it is very hard not to photograph the landscapes of NM. The light here, as well as the terrain are awe-inspiring for me. So one would think that I have been out doing tons of photography, but I have spent most of my time with my nose to grindstone setting up a new bed and breakfast and a new nonprofit. When I am not working on that I am supporting my neurosis by worrying about and feeling guilty about not working on the bed and breakfast and nonprofit. I have done some photography. In fact I have done some photography that I like very much. I find the transition from emulsion film and the darkroom to digital a real challenge – a sort of love-hate relationship. The long and the short of this is that I need to make friends with my digital SLR and quit whining about the learning curve, etc. The good news is the last two years of effort are paying off and I now find myself in the position of begin able, and willing, to take off and photograph.

It’s been 15 years since I put away my photography equipment after completing a fine arts degree to go to grad school in Instructional Technology & Design. I can’t believe I “shelved” my art like that, although it seemed necessary to me at the time. Now it feels intimidating to jump back in. I’ve been transitioning to digital and after using a Nikon 5700 for about a year I realize that I want a digital SLR. I’ve spent a good portion of the past few days looking at options and am pretty sure I am going with the Nikon D70 because I like Nikon lenses so much.
