I joined that ancestry.com website thingy.
I didn’t really learn much because you have to pay if you want to learn anything.

More inspiration 3 weeks ago

I just got back from Hawaii and they had a whole family tree of Hawaii’s royal lineage going back 9 generations. That’s freakin’ awesome. I am going to try and create a family tree of what I know pretty soon.

Hmm... 4 weeks ago

Where to begin. I am filipino on both sides, and my parents were immigrants to this country. I have been to the Philippines, and have only seen a picture of my great grandparents. I don’t really know too much more. I’m sure at least the church in the village where my mom grew up has some records there and I may start to investigate someday. I can also talk to my paternal grandmother to get some insight before she gets too old.

Stories 19 months ago

I’m disappointed that we can’t go very far back on my mother’s side, but my uncle was able to go pretty far on my dad’s. Who knows if everything checks out, but it’s all very interesting to hear about.

My grandma left today after having been here since early November. She’s losing the memory of her stories so it was nice to hear about her siblings sometimes. I wish there was more, but I accept what I know now.

Here’s to heritage and living in the present.

difficult 22 months ago

i find that when people talk about their family history, i get discouraged because i pretty much know nothing about mine. albeit a little more difficult to date anything back past my great-grandmother, who i knew, it’ll still be worth a try. i think the hardest part will be to begin.

Dysfunction 22 months ago

I learned that my families dysfunctions goes back generations and then I hit a wall. I can’t find any of my relatives past my Native American Great Grandparents. I’m not even sure what tribe they are from since they were adopted. But I’m going to start documenting our current relatives and hopefully my grand kids and great grand kids will appreciate my efforts.

I just don't know what to do with myself.... 2 years ago

I’m White, or at least I think I am, I’ve got pale, white skin, light- blue eyes, lightish brown hair, slightly wavy (not kinky or tightly curled), I’ve got White ancestry on both sides going back to my Great- Great Grandparents, at least. Both of my parents have medium brown and dark brown hair, respectively, my mom has blue- grey eyes, my dad has light- blue eyes. As far as I know I only have Polish, English, Scottish, Ukrainean, Belarussian and potentially some Welsh, however my snub nose may say otherwise. I’ve decided I’ll get a £299 DNA test, my mom’s maiden name was Simpson (meaning snub- nose according to The Guardian’s 500 Top British surnames, so maybe I’m not Oriental, it remains to be seen.
