Yah, had to read it for school. Pretty decent, but dark. It’s a total metaphor for many things, and different people will think different parts represent different things.
People doing this are also doing these things:
-
find and know just the right words to say in each and every moment; intentionally NOT say them unless they are kind, loving, or can help produce positive results in the world around me
-
Future Forecast: Spend 10 minutes visioning yourself 10 years from now as having accomplished one of your biggest dreams. Be as detailed as possible; imagine in all five senses.

I finished this last night. I really felt the anxiety and pressure in this story. I was moving through London on the underground and waiting at bus-stops. I noticed an old woman smoking and coughing, homeless people. They were unhappy and I could almost feel it. All of this made me feel the anxiety in the story even more. Some people think Kafka is oppressive and I can see why. I will read more from him in the future but for now I need some respite.
I read this for school. The audiobook is avaliable for free at www.thoughtaudio.com, but the site is down for some reason. I have all the mp3s saved onto my computer if anyone wants them that bad.
I love Kafka. He’s so interesting. There is so much symbolism and societal analysis behind his novellas/short stories. They really make you think.
I listened to it on audio book. great listen. very good storying telling, and definitely many interpretations. and it’s short :-)
It’s a lot of fun (well, in a way) and it’s not that long. When I come back, young man/lady, I want you to have that book finished.
