How I did it: I went to a specialty high school for the Arts and in the senior years students had a couple (or none) of their art pieces hanging in a large gallery in the downtown area.
The art was also up for sale and open to the public.
Lessons & tips: Being shown in a gallery with a lot of other people can feel either stifling or intimidating.
A great attitude will take you a long way. It will help establish connections and keep them and make everyone more likely to want to work with you and even help you. No matter how good you are if you have a terrible personality, no-one will want to associate with you.
Most important is practice. Get good. Get really good but don't compare yourself to other people. If people like your work, they'll like it on it's own merit.

I have had my art in small local galleries, but as I have gotten older, my style has changed immensely. And Being from a nowhere town full of absentminded buffoons, It won’t be appreciated here. So therefore I will just have to get it going throught the internet, and hopefully someone will see it and bring me to them. That’s my dream at least! Untill then I will keep making art.

Between jobs with no income, I was buzzing with ideas on what I wanted to do to earn an income and still feel free. A friend ran a stone fabrication yard (counter tops & stuff) and he let me take all the broken stone I wanted. So I created a kinetic, metal, stone and water sculpture. I showed it up and down Pacific Coast Highway trying to get some one to show it.
The Garret White people let me put it in under consignment. I sold my first one and from that got a commission for a large version for a garden. I still have one in my own yard to remind me to always pursue my dreams.
I need to get my portfolio together. I haven’t updated it since college – and that was 5 years ago!!! I’ve got to get some serious work done if I want this gallery thing to happen! :)

I am soooooo excited!! I’ve been going to a new church and there are a LOT of artsy people that attend. Well, a couple of girls are putting together an art show for female artists of the church. It’s going to be a really REAL art show!! And I have been invited to participate!!!!!!!!!!!! This is like one of my MAJOR goals! I’m totally going to do this. If I can show 2 or 3 pieces I definately want to do at least 1 mixed media work and show 1 photograph. I might mix some photos into a mixed media artwork too. This is extremely thrilling! I can’t wait.
