Tried kayaking, loved it. Those plastic things they use are practical, but ugly! Especially to a woodworker. Time to build one.
Joli_Bele is being LAZY!
i stumbled across this project while surfing the net, and would like to build a wooden kayak, perhaps a tandem one.
Almost done! All epoxied up water tight and have paddled a few times. It’s time now to get back in the shop (uh, garage) for final sanding and varnish, deck rigging, bulkheads, and hatches. Then for that other goal…
Ended up having to build a steambender for the stem and stern. That is not finished yet but should be great when it is up and running. First boiler I ever made.
My father bought this plans in the early 60’s, and I have been considering it for the past twenty years, so its time to start.
I’ve got a nice wide river 200m from my soon to be completed house.
Wood and canvas
Time needed: 100 hours
Cad drawings of frames completed
Step 1: cut and laminate lengthwise pieces.
Date to be finished: 26 August 2006
there is this Danish quy teaching people how to build a sea-kayak the way the inuit (eskimo) do. Just wood and cloth (ok, the inuit use skin), beeswax and vlax. No nails, no nylon.
Building takes one intense week and then you have to paint it a few times.
You’ll end up with a customfit, light-weight durable seakayak!
Now you only need to learn the eskimo-roll…
Objective: exercise, transportation (possibly to work, when combined with jogging)
Predecessor: Landscaping the backyard, as directed by the Lady of the House
