How I did it: It was a fluke. I was bored on a Friday night and ended up finding this little joint that had a tango class for $5, followed by a milonga. As it was, most students were away at a special tango event, so I ended up with a rather private lesson. I got hooked. I took group classes for about 6 months. I took any special workshops I could with guests like Carolina and Diego, and El Pulpo. To say it takes 6 months, well not really. There's so much to practice and learn, it takes Years to be proficient at it (which I don't claim to be). I didn't really take off with it until I took private lessons with Heriberto Perez. What a teacher! I took private lessons for well over a year. My next goal is to learn how to lead. I think I would be a Great leader!

Resources: You can get really turned on by the classic "cult" tango films! Like Tango Lesson, Tango, Tango Fever. And

I’ve been watching dance shows like dancing with the stars because the passion of dance is so enthralling. BUT GODDDDDDD whats with the music?? I’m sorry but does any one else think dancing the tango or paso doble to the pussy cat dolls or blink 182 sort of kills the seduction and power of the dance?
Anyway, I’ve been practicing tango moves. I have not danced with anyone, but I go latin dancing with my best friend (We can merengue, salsa, bachata, and cumbia) and I’ve taken my place as a follower which is really important, and I’ve gotten really good. I can actually keep up with the footwork the spinning and all these crazy moves my friend throws in. People actually watch us dance and then I get a bunch of men that flock to me for the next dance lol. Yay! One of these guy should know how to tango neh? I’m just too shy!!
itgoesto11 can't wait
I need to find a time to do this.
Maybe in the spring. Thankfully hubby into it.
I read about this group that meets every Saturday to tango in Central Park. I’d like to learn this dance and join in sometime in the near future.
LauralyBeautiful /Patient as stars, they build in air
This is something I’d adore to do in future, but for now, it’s not realistically a goal I can reach.
Here’s looking to the future, though.
we did it!
the dance was practically flawless and i was buzzing!
mannnnnnnnnn
one of my favourite days ever!
hugs and smiles for everyone afterwards and everyone told us we were really good!
:D
ooooooooh learning it!
yum hum so we’re doing this at Spanish Dancing and it’s pretty awesome.
weirdly, no-one actually knows exactly how to do it – it’s mostly just me and sarah youtubing it up and then working it out when we practise…
anyway
should be pretty awesome by the end of it.
aaaaaand check this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXhQNRsH3uc
obviously we’re nowhere near that standard, but it’s pretty inspiring nonetheless…
more updates coming later

I’m horible at following. I’m not so intuitive and a bit slow that I always am getting dragged along, stumbling, and stepping on feet T__T’ I’ve gotten better though.
You just have to surrender yourself to the music, and have a partner who dances better than you. I don’t…
I was watching some basic steps on tv where you step side side side, the cha cha and watch what they do with their heads and arms, and finally the lady gets dipped.
This dance is beautiful, graceful and passionate and I want to try it. I think I’m going to talk David (my latest suitor) to take lessons with me!
I do this a lot. Every wednesday and saturday, formally (milongas, classes, etc), on and off with my partner almost daily, and sometimes I meet with friends to practice, usually once a week ish..
So I guess my goal is to keep tangoing? This is an ongoing goal, I suppose.
To dance is fun, a lot of fun but to dance the Argentinean tango is to touch the sky. Close yours eyes (no, not now; after having finished reading this! ) and imagine you are being held by your partner in a close embrace (you smell his/her scent and feel his/her heart bit ). You are both into the great music which is being played and you two are moving together as one unit on the dancing floor for 3 to 4 wonderful minutes. You feel like in a dream. Can you ask more from a dance? ………… Yes, one more of the same.
This is the social Argentinean tango dance. It is very simple; it is just a walking dance which everyone, who can walk, can dance it. The tango for shows is totally different but this type of dancing we will keep for show times, right? Social tango is about dancing for the music, yourself and your partner.
Now you may close your eyes.
