turk811 is re-evaluating her life
Freelancer photographer with a local paper.
And I’ve been published 5 times with 4 local papers.
I’m so-o DOIN this!! :)
How I did it: Dedication, practice, and lots of criticism. You have to be willing to take advice from others. Even if they don't know as much about photography, they're still an audience. And, that's what you're aiming to please.
Lessons & tips: Keep snapping photographs - eventually something will pop out at you.
Resources: Using my friends as models. Also, driving around the community, and even the country. You can sometimes stumble upon the most beautiful setting if you're looking in all the odd places.

I’m busy making my portfolio while I’m studying to be a social culture worker and hoping I can go to a art school afterwards.

didn’t get the apprencticeship. Well, they said they’d call in a few months when the studio was quieter. So that’s just an easy way of telling me no.
Had a blazing row with my boyfriend the other night too. Seems that after all his advice, and pushing me, and giving me the confidence to finally do this he hates me for it.
I feel really, really bad. I love photography. And I’m pretty good too!! And I made him cry. He actually is so upset about me doing this that he CRIED!!
I told him I’d stop taking pictures, I told him I’d never touch a camera again if that’s what he wants. But he said no, he wants me taking pictures, he just jealous n needs to get over that.
But now I’m worried about every oppertunity that I get, and if it’s gonna start another fight.
Plus, there’s this tiny evil part of me that is thinking, DAMN I must be good if he’s this upset. He said I’d taken better pictures in the last 3 weeks than he had in the last 4 years. And it’s his camera I’m using, I think that’s what bugs him most.
God he can make life hard sometimes. But he’s worth it!
I don’t want to stop taking photographs, I hope he doesn’t change his mind.

gotten published this week (woo!), 3 photos in a local paper, plus another assignment for next week!! :)
Plus I might have a chance at an apprenticeship with an AMAZING local photographic studio. Ok, I’d be working for free, so I’ve have to double job it to get by but this is an oppertunity of a lifetime!! The only way the week could get better is if National Geographic call ha ha ha!
Ever notice how when you’re doing what you’re meant to things start to fall into place?

Right…
Book collection started…check
Cameras I can borrow to have a play around with…check
Local camera clubs looked into…check
MEGA online research…check
Now all I gotta do is start taking some pics! :)
I think sometimes I just need to find inspiration. And I would like to be able to teach myself techniques, effects, and how to properly use a camera.

So I’ve been doing some research on the cameras out there, and I have more or less decided on the Canon EOS 50D as the one I want. However, since this will be my first foray into digital photography I was wondering if there’s anyone out there who may be able to offer some advice on the best lenses to go for with this camera? I just want one or two to start (since the camera is bloody expensive enough as it is!!) and would like to know what would give me the best range of options without loading myself down like a pack pony!! I’d be going for mostly landscape and portrait photos at first, with a view to building up my portfolio and selling my pictures to fund the purchase of further shiny new toys that would enable me to take more interesting and abstract pictures in time. Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)
