I have always wanted to learn how to fly. My dad was a pilot with the Navy and ever since I was a little boy I dreamed of flying. As I got older my eyesight went bad and I knew that I would never be accepted as a pilot in the Navy so I gave up that dream. It was hard. when you’ve had an idea like that in your mind for so long it doesn’t go away right away. I had dreams for months after that I would be flying, piloting with my dad or with other Navy pilots.
Then many years later, at the ripe age of 42 my wife gave me a coupon for a free flying lesson. I took the lesson and decided that this was something I had to complete. It was a long, hard slog with many lessons, tests, flights, successes and failures. I discovered that I am not a natural pilot, but, with practice I could be a competent pilot. My dad flew with me a few times to seal the deal and after a few years the urge to fly faded away. I don’t feel the urge to fly anymore but I am so glad that I took the time to get my license.
