How to learn LaTeX
How I did it: I used the internet. There's a multitude of documentation, tutorials, and discussion groups out there with the answers to all your questions. One particularly helpful document is the "not so short introduction to LaTeX" which can be found here.
Lessons & tips: Just start messing around. If you don't know the right code, take a guess and see what happens. If it doesn't work, or you have no idea, google it.
Resources: I found TeXmaker to be really useful. It has shortcuts to a lot of common sequences, and an easy to read menu for mathematical symbols. And it's free. You can find out more about it here: http://www.xm1math.net/texmaker/

This will be a huge thing for me, if I can. Considering my education and possible future life, I should start soon.
Well I decided to start writing my first year report (for my PhD) in LaTeX and pretty much have a handle on it now. I’m sure I’ll need to pop back to the documentation if I need something fancy, but I can knock up the important stuff.
Got texmakerWin and niktex, a professor in my dept likes this a lot and is even giving free courses on it :-)

There’s lots of tutorials online and alternatives can’t really compare. I’ve been using TeXShop and BibDesk, which integrate everything really well, and abstract away a bit from having to remember key words.
I’d like to learn it becuase I will be doing the layout for a science journal project, at university, and I’ve been reading about typography a lot since a few months and that makes you realize what a mediocre piece of software Microsoft Word is for these purposes.
My logic professor introduced me to LaTeX, like Rob is saying: it’s essential if you want to use a lot of mathematical symbols.
Thanks for all those tutorials, I will be diving into them soon :)
