buy 43 presents for 43 kids

I was wondering if this would be a good time to do this. To buy presents for children that in some way teaches them about Emancipation.

So I’m thinking this isn’t a baby gift. It would have to go to older children.

I’m wondering what would be a good idea. I must do some research into toys, games or books that would make a good gift for children that focus on either Emancipation or Slavery and teaching children about this period in history.

Does anyone have suggestions or ideas?

Final score … we collected around $500 dollars for presents and they now all bought, wrapped, delivered. Such a nice feeling.

In adddition my company managed to collect around 500 secret santas for the kids.

This goal is well and truely completed, and so so worth doing.

We got 3 for 2 at the toy shop. Yay us !!!!!!!!!

Bumped into the girl who is organising and she’s off to buy the presents today (in fact as I type this entry).

Then as I said earlier we got the corporate secret santa next week.

Mission accomplished !!

Back in work today hoping that we managed to get 43 presents but greeted by some major news … my company has agreed to do a “Secret Santa” across the whole of the Head Office.

Works like this … you pick out a card from big envelope. You either get blue for a boy or pink for a girl and on it is one of 3 age groups 3-5, 6-8, 9-11.

You then buy a present up to £10 in value, wrap it up and put in a huge sack which is gonna be delivered to the local kids hospital.

How unbelievable is that, we got 3000 people in the office and I’m sure that at least 50% will do it. If so we more than hit our 43 presents. Not claiming any credit for this cos couple of the girls pushed it through the charity team.

Do they rock or wot ?? I so so happy and can tick this off in next 2 weeks when they delivered.

I been out the office all week and have no idea how this is going. It’s all gone very quiet. Think I gonna have to inject some energy into this one on Monday !!

Checked out with my mate and she said we about half way there in terms of the money we want to raise. Looking good and fingers crossed we gonna do it !!

Ok this is the story … I work in a large office 3000 people. Every year we got into the Xmas Card Politics game. Who should send a card to who … What size card should you send to the boss … I’ll send you one if you send me one etc etc. It was pathetic and worst of all were the people who didn’t wanna send any but just sat with a box in their desk and everytime they got one, they wrote one straight back. It devalued the whole spirit of the thing and what a waste of money.

Five year back we came up with an idea. No office cards (other than for special, special friends) and instead we would all make a donation of the money we would have spent. We would then go buy a load of toys, books etc, wrap them up and deliver to the local hospital for the under priviliged kids.

So this year we kicked it off again but with an extra kick … 43 presents to 43 kids. I was proud to make the first donation and I tell ya wot its a lot more rewarding giving a kid a smile, than my boss.

So if anyone out there wants to steal this idea for their own workplace, school etc then fine by me.

We could then change the goal to … 43 presents for 43 kids … in 43 places. How cool would that be ??
