I’ve always loved aircraft. What could be better than building and flying my own airplane (and not killing myself in the process)?
Here is a good candidate for the plane I’d like to build:

I’ve already bought a set of Pietenpol plans. The difficult thing is to get started, but first I have to finish my house.
I want to build a rocket of my design on my own. Then launch it higher than any amatuer has ever gone. (400,000 ft is my personal goal… for starters.) I already have a design finalized. The only thing that is stopping me is lack of money and a place to launch from.
When i accomplish this goal i will embark on a journey to launch a manned rocket into space. With me in it of course.
I first want a plane that would be cheep to operate and buil. Grat distance and comfort. And to meet S-SLA of the FAA.
The first thing im thinkjingh about is what type of engine and where it will go. i wanna build this on the cheap so im thinking of a few lawnmower engines or a VW. Everywhere on the net is people saying that an airplane costs 80 000 and ten years so i dont know but it dont seem that hard to me. Any onme else doing this from scratch???
Im looking to build an airplane-like machine which would attach to a person’s body. In effect its simply an airplane with a prone and external cockpit. Im currently an civil engineering student but am only in my 2nd year and have yet to learn the specifics that would be required to complete a project like this. Does anyone have any links to where I can learn about what is needed to build an airplane? Im pretty familiar with the math and physics involved but very unfailiar with the engineering part.

cherrydumdum2 asks,
“do you guys think a lawn mower motor would work if the plane was ultra light? Cloth wings and aluminum frame i'd say it could be potentially less than a hundred pounds. Thoughts?”
