it’s a nice cause, but not that important to me.
clicking the give up button for now.

I can’t even play a tambourine properly, much less the berimbau. But I want to learn everything!
dude, my advice for you is, just get into the right mindset. think you’re an awesome berimbau player then jump to it. watch alot of vids. it would be very helpful if you had a partner to play with you (or at least a track of a capoeira toque you want to learn)
Capoeira music gives me so much energy in the roda that I couldn’t resist learning how to play the berimbau myself. Hopefully one day I’ll be the one giving the energy to the roda :-D
Around a month and a half ago. That’s a start..
I don’t know many rhythms (?) so it got boring after a while. My teacher will teach me some more.
I can’t coordinate songs with the music – can’t figure which part of the song goes where or which music to play.
elliquidador will make a difference
i just borrowed me one (i guess a gunga) from my local group for practicing during the summer-holiday-break… lets see what happens! especially i’m wondering if my housemates are getting violent with me… ^^
first questions i ask myself:
1) how often do i need to re-span the arame? i heard its not good to leave the berimbau spanned…
2) at witch point is the cabaca fixed above the end of the verga? mine is about 6 inches away, i got the feeling it’s a bit too low, but it’s extremely hard to get it higher, and of course i don’t want to break something…
I want to do capoeira since I already know a little bit of it and can learn more by doing. With the berimbau the situation is a bit different, since I can’t play (so that someone would like to listen) and I need to put effort into learning it first. Afterall capoeirista who doesn’t sing and play is not capoeirista at all.
Today it’s been my best day in playing the berimbau! Today I can really feel I’ve made some progress! :) I haven’t been to classes for 3 weeks but instead I was filming myself playing and could see my mistakes, and watching lots of capoeira videos, watching closely how other people play. And I corrected my main mistake – I could finally relax the wrist of the right hand, and it got so much easier to play faster and louder. And now I was playing in front of the big mirror, jumping and dancing, and imagining myself on the stage, he he :)
Now I have my own berimbau and practice as much as I can. It gets better and better every day. I was so happy when I could finally play Iuna, which is my favorite rhythm so far :)
Now I’ve got my berimbau I’ve been practicing a bit. Even tried to play today at the roda. Didn’t do great but practice makes perfect!

“I wanna learn playing alone but I could use some kind of HOWTO or something to get a hand to the basics... know one?”
