I’m a little bit behind schedule on these donations, because I’ve been between jobs. Now that my paycheck-less period is ending, I need to do another soon. A few of the other new faculty members at my institution are passionate activists for causes I’m sympathetic to, so I might consult them for ideas.

A bunch of y’all already know about this one! Donations to 2 awesome bloggers + supercheering.
The total dollar amount donated is a bit less than usual. I think it’s still “nontrivial,” but I don’t want to backslide.
The next donation should be in June or so, when I’ll be financially hurting a little bit from the move and being between jobs. No excuses though! I think I’ll try to do something for one of my new communities – the one I’m moving to, or the one I’m working in.

An old friend who’s going through some tough financial times.
This one was a little out of the blue, so I’m hoping I’ll be in good enough shape to do another donation this quarter as well. I’ve been toying with the idea of spreading it around websites/programs I support (actually paying for freeware, donating to blogs, etc).

A friend is really passionate about this. I’m bookmarking the 2 charities she recommended, and I’ll donate soon as part of the financial housekeeping tasks I gotta do.
Oxfam
Un Techo para mi PaĆs (A roof for my country)
...and done. Donation #13 to Oxfam.

That was a fun one – I got to buy some animals to help families around the world. And yes, rabbits were involved. We won’t think about what will happen to their offspring, ok? It’s for a good cause.

Thanks to these lovely people, I got to help fund 2 microloans through Kiva.org. And I’m elated that my loans went to Central Americanwomen!

I just got back from Guatemala, which is the poorest and possibly the loveliest country in Central America. I’d like to find a charity that does something for the many Guatemalans of Mayan ancestry, who were brutalized in the civil war and still have few opportunities today.

Just donated to them. I’d like to do another one this quarter – I’ve been hearing good things about Heifer International.

I’ve budgeted 4 of these charitable contributions a year, although I’d like to do a little bit better than that (else it’ll be a decade before this thing gets checked off). This entry’s just my reminder for the next one.

sent me address labels. I like address labels, and children. I think I can send one of the 43 gifts their way sometime :)
