Took the class last semester and failed it, but that was only because I didn’t do half the assignments. I still learned loads from the class, and I’m hoping to apply my new skills soon.

will definitely start this year 8 months ago

There’s a four month course in the neighbourhood and I think I’ll be able to manage it. But not in the next three months.Wil have to concentrate on my piano lessons till then. And then as I promised myself last year, will work on developing some small applications …

At Highschool I learned the basics(short programs)But I get good stuff from the Net to accomplish my goals! I´ll give a try!

Bigmighty is wasting time in the Net.

I ain't got the time 1 year ago

not only there is too many programmers in the world making new software, I’ve been told there are much better programming languajes to learn. However, the truth is that I just don’t hae any time. I think I rather re-learn Pro-E, MathCAD or Mathematica.

    Please Don't 1 year ago

There are many wonderful languages that are calling for new programmers. Please learn C, C plus plus , Pascal/Delphi, Java, or Assembly. Don’t learn VB.NET—or if you simply must, please learn BASIC. BASIC is a great language and Visual Basic was one of the best RAD tools ever created all the up through VB 6 (before it became .NET). The language was gutted, syntax mangled, and 6 versions of Visual Basic code was deprecated. Please don’t put your faith in a language controlled by an entity who’s bottom line is NOT in our best interest, as developers. Given the complexity of VB.NET you may just as well learn C/C++.

Definitely worth doing... 1 year ago

...but be ready to give up a lot of time on getting up to speed on it all. Getting a good VB guide book is an absolute pre-requisite! After that, expect to spend a fair amount of time tinkering to get your programs working as you intend them to do. When you get something working, though, it’s a massive feeling of satisfaction.

For example, I bought a Nintendo DS a while back to play the brain training games and stimulate my under-exercised intellect. While the brain training on the DS is great, I thought I could get a little more from some of the exercises if I re-created them on my home PC and made a few changes to customise them for my own mental development/stimulation. The new programs took a while to develop, but now that I’ve finished them, they are absolutely great. (The development of my programs was a great mental workout, too.)

A few years ago I would have said Yes 2 years ago

I made my bread and butter off of Visual Basic in the 90’s but I would recommend strongly that you don’t bother. The better days of VB are long behind it.

I have switched all my development efforts over to C# and C+. Yes, C+ is harder but C# is not. If you want to learn a Microsoft devlepment language, choose C# over VB.

I put it this way: Microsoft took the ease of VB, avoided the mistakes of Java and the took the power of C++ and made a new language called C#.

My particular class was REALLY hard. But I got through it, and was very proud of myself.
