I learned when I was 9 and haven’t looked back.

How I did it: Crocheting - I had my mom teach me and then bought books on the subject. Even took two sessions of classes by two different instructors. I could do the stitches, but could never grasp reading the patterns. I spent 20 years on and off trying to learn.Knitting - I learned in a day, by a couple of really cool yarn shop owners! They were extremely helpful and anytime I had a problem I just went in to the shop. I took every knitting class … Read how I did it…

I prefer crocheting to knitting, but they are both well worth it.
I have made a total of 3 afghans and I have plans for making two more.
Homemade projects are GREAT gifts
I can knit, but not crochet.
I taught myself to knit, and I’m pretty good, if i do say so myself!
I’ve just finnished knitting a pig for my mum. She’s a pretty awesome pig, if I do say so mmyself!
and I definately have a lot more to learn but I am now cruising right along on both. And loving it.
I got some knitting books for Christmas. Knitting for Dummies and Stitch N Bitch Nation. And I found a great webpage with video directions Knitting Help that is really helpful. I started my first project which is a scarf. Its a very simple pattern using just the knit and purl stitches. Easy to do, but with enough pattern in it to be pretty and interesting for me. I also found some yarn that was nice and soft but inexpensive. I put my work down last night when I was in the middle of a row though, and this morning when I started again I messed up. I tried to rip out the work and start over, but that is much harder than it sounds. Much harder than ripping out crochet work. I can see I am going to have to learn how to do this though. I ended up ripping out the entire thing and am going to start over. I only had about 12 rows though, so its not that bad. Not going to let it discourage me.
Knitting for dummies, and Stitch ‘N Bitch Nation today. I shall be knitting and purling by the end of the week.
Knitting is harder than it looks. It is harder for me than crochet for sure. And the thing that sucks is that I have found so many cute things to make for knitting.
I can safely say that I am crocheting now, and crocheting pretty good too. Obviously I am no expert yet, but I can pass. Making my Dad a blanket. Next, knitting. Which seems trickier.
I have started and unraveled a zillion projects. As usual I am bored with the basics and attempt to do what is beyond me. Then I end up going back to the basics, but by then I am ready. Anyway, for some reason I went a little nuts and got a bunch of free patterns at the yarn shop and looted my mothers yarn collection and took a bunch of her hooks. I now have this really dorky crochet bag full of goodies to drag off to work tomorrow. I dont know why I want to do this. Forgive me for saying this, but most of the crocheted stuff I have seen is ugly or tacky. I hate when people use that really cheap itchy yarn. And I am not going to have afghans all around my house. So I dont really understand my obsession.
Well I had to work with my boss out on the floor all day yesterday. She happens to be a knitting and crocheting expert, and it was a slow day. So far I have been trying to learn from little tutorials I had gotten on the internet, but the abbreviations all seemed like a foreign language. I took advantage to her being there yesterday and she showed me a few things and I am now moving right along. Not to give the impression that I am moving along in a pretty fashion. Still crooked and crazy looking, but much better.
