SO WORTH IT!

This movie is a masterpiece! I watched it with my boyfriend, and I cried when it was over. It was just too beautiful.. and the women were way too beautiful for this world! :D
DEFINITELY A MUST-SEE! For anyone who’s into the Asian culture.

I’ve enjoyed watching “Memoirs of a Geisha.” It doesn’t accurately represent reality. One of my Japanese friends, for instance, pointed out that geishas didn’t dance as they do in the movie. Anyways, beautiful constumes. I enjoyed the plot. Overall good movie.

I think that the movie definitely did justice to the book. It certainly captured the spirit and essence of a Geisha. While the movie certainly couldn’t ever cover the whole novel, the actors were superbly cast, and I would definitely recommend reading the book first.

The book is my all-time favorite novel, and I’ve read it four times. While the movie isn’t nearly as good as the book is, it’s still beautifully made and has a great cast.
As a fan of the wonderful Michelle Yeoh, as well as Zhang Ziyi and Gong Li, I enjoyed this movie. If I hadn’t read the book, however, I would have gotten easily confused, as not much of the geisha background and “inside stuff” is in the movie like it was in the book.

I’d forgotten about this goal. It was completed a long time ago, with a man who didn’t have the decency to stay awake in a world that was isolating. The movie was beautiful and perfect, just like I knew it would be. However, I have bad associations with it now. I probably won’t see it again for awhile.

Megynn is the sun and the moon and the stars all in one.
This was a gorgeous movie. Of course, since I read the book, I will say that the book was better, but the visuals of the movie were well worth it. It made me want to visit Japan.

Well, I finally got to see the film. I’m not entirely sure if I liked it or not, but that seems to be the case when any good book that I like is made into a film.
Whilst I think it’s admirable just how loyal to the book the film was and whilst I do understand that it’s difficult to cram everything that happened in the book into that two and a half hour timeframe, I think there were a lot of things that should have been given more attention – the application of the makeup, for example (yes, I know we see it but only as a background occurance, and it’s such a huuuge thing to be overlooked); the choosing of the kimono, Granny – poor Granny was mentioned once then completely neglected for the rest of the film!
And another thing – what was going on with the hair? I never once, whilst reading the book, envisioned any of the girls with their hair out. I found that quite difficult to get my head around.
All in all, I do think it was a good film and there were scenes that made me catch my breath because they were exactly how I’d imagined them. As a fan of the book first and foremost though, there was something missing. It didn’t move me in the way the book did.

It took me totally by suprise. Every shot is beautiful and makes you realise how lovely little things can be, like a cherry blossom or a pretty hand pouring a cup of sake. I’ve heard loads about how inaccurate it is, and about how they cast Chinese actresses instead of Japanese because they thought the “West” wouldn’t know the difference, but I really thought it was exquisite and I would totally recommend it.

A promise made is one that is never kept. I will see this movie. Without you, now, because two hours wasn’t worth to you what it would have meant to me. Am I to have expected anything else from you?
Besides that ramble, I’ve read this novel a million times. It is one of my favorite books, and I’ve heard such great things about this film. If it does follow the novel as closely as I’ve heard it does, it will be on my top 10 list. Here’s to crossing my fingers!
