lifemosaic is alive!
Never seen one before though I love ballet, plays some musicals and the theatre in general. Not sure I would like it, but I’ll give anyting a go!
How I did it: A neighbor could not make it, so he offered me 4 tickets to Madama Butterfly in his company's box. My mom, friend, and I dressed up and drove downtown. We got there just in time to settle in our seats and watch the curtain rise.

My aunt took me to see the Metropolitan Opera in live HD broadcast—it was amazing. Not only can you actually SEE the performers (as opposed to seeing talented spangly ants down on the stage), but they had all this information about the characters in the opera, what happens backstage, info about the performers, translations of main sections on screen. . .for someone who knows nothing about opera, it was the perfect way to see something amazing and appreciate it more because they taught their audience as we went along.
Apparently several major opera companies are doing this, and they broadcast around the world – www.metopera.org/hd, if anyone is interested. An added bonus is that it is a lot more affordable that a ticket to one of the major opera companies, although I would like to see an in-person performance once I learn more.
I am totally hooked now. They are broadcasting Faust in November, directed by the same guy who does the Cirque du Soleil performances. It ought to be incredible and amazing and all kinds of other superlatives.
My dad has booked us tickets for La Boheme in October, I am looking forward to it. Have heard that it’s really romantic and sad, I just hope I can follow it ok.

Do operettas count? I saw The Pirates of Penzance a couple of months ago.

I’ve seen three. I love it! I wish I could go to more, but I only went before because my parents had bought season tickets to the Knox Concert Series, and they did operas, plays, musicals, dances, and concerts. It was really neat, but now I have these things called responsibilities, and bills, and a job… and all that other fun stuff that keeps you from doing certain things and spending money on going to the opera and buying nice gowns to wear to those operas…
There are three different operas being performed at my favourite theatre in October. Tosca, La Boheme, and Carmen. Now to choose which one to buy tickets for, I’ve never seen an opera before so I’m looking forward to doing this.

I bought my first season ticket when I was 18. After becoming a single parent, I couldn’t afford it. Lucky for me, my fabulous boyfriend just got us season tickets for the ‘08-’09 season. I’m so excited and grateful!

Having heard the Prelude to Tristan and Isolde I think I might enjoy opera.
I’ve matured enough to appreciate the singing as well!
