set up an ebay store

I’ve been selling on eBay for years, and up until 2 months ago, I always did auction-style listings.
Unless you’re listing hundreds of things (or making a GOOD profit on each listing) each month, it will NOT be worth it to set up an actual store. Much better to stick with auctions or Buy It Now. The monthly fee for a basic store is $15, then there’s the final value fee. The only good thing about having a store so far as I can tell is the low (3 cent) listing fees. With a store, you get less exposure…generally.
Over the 2 months I’ve had the store, I’ve listed about 70 items and sold less than 20. I was doing MUCH better before setting up the store.

Now that ebay has decided to lower the insertion fees, I plan in stocking my store within the next 2-3 months! I am continuously listing items via auctions to bring in customers to the store for “Buy it Now” purchases. So far its been real slow to make sells from the store. Auctions are doing well so far!

I was thinking of putting up a link to my eBay store here just to see if anything happens but given how the robots frown on commerical entries I would rather not.

putting anything on here for my side project/job, but I have been woefully behind in doing this, so I figured maybe having it here while I am off, not doing it, will help me to do it.

So here it is….

Having an eBay store in addition to “traditional” e-commerce is a fantastic way to generate traffic while creating a new revenue stream.

Branding is essential. While eBay does not allow sellers to activly promote other sales channels, there are steal ways to promote including listing your contact info (ie info@mytraditionalsite.com) in each listing. Follow up sales with contact info in the package and invoice as well as follow up emails.

Oftentimes the “hot seller” in a traditional site will be different from the hot seller on eBay – so what? We’re in it for the revenue right? Those additional sales not only improve the bottom line, but the added shipments create the opportunities to negotiate better relationships with suppliers and shippers.

I’ve been amazed again and again at how something that I introduce on eBay creates a new tipping point for my business.

Using eBay is definitely something to be considered in your business plan.

-I have the items I want to sell.
-Pictures are ready and waiting.
-I’ve sold a few items already.
-I have all the packaging and shipping supplies ready.
-I just need that big push to open a store. =)

...until then, I need to decide on a name first!

Woo Hoo! Of course it was a Tussy Mussy….

TuesdaysAndThursdays is open for business. Only one sku so far but it doesn’t matter – it was the top selling sku at the other e-commerce companies I started so this is a great start!

One of my business goals is to become the largest seller of Tussy Mussies in the country (Tussy Mussies are bouquet holders). Next week other merchandise will start arriving (and showing up on eBay). In a few weeks the website will be live and even more items will suddenly become available.

Can’t wait to finally start moving forward!
