I have been putting this off for months. Tomorrow, a good friend of mine is coming over and we are making soap! I’m very excited.

How I did it: Sodium hydroxide, water, and a balanced blend of oils, all mixed together at the temperature of 115 degrees Fahrenheit. I followed the recipe in Smart Soapmaking by Anne L. Watson. Read how I did it…

I know I’m a very creative person, and I believe I can do anything.
I’ve been wanting to make soap for a long time.
I got a 50% off coupon from Michael’s. I’ll go there tomorrow and buy a block of glycerine soap.
i don’t know how, i don’t have the time. and these are terrible excuses. i love getting different soaps with fun textures and scents. i’ve been looking on www.etsy.com and they have awesome soaps and i want to buy them all. it’d be way better if i learned how and started making my own.
I just want to make soap that looks and smells nice and doesn’t freak people out…
i tried to make bath bombs for the first time last night… i have decided although the recipe i used is super easy i want to try something different to end up with a better looking final project
I would like to be able to do this before I go to Madagascar. then I can make mmy own soup over there
The only reason I would want to do this is because I have all thise grease that I collect from bacon or from the foreman frill and I want to do something with it.
bramblekite is done planting a salsa garden!
Soapmaking is fun, and you end up with LOTS of soap for gifts to people. The hassle part is waiting for the soap to cure. One year I made soap in October to have it ready to give to people for Xmas gifts. It’s fun to shop for fragrances and molds. Dollar stores have pots and pans you can buy for using only for
soap.
Homemade soap is so much cleaner-feeling on your skin, and the lather is softer and less foamy than store-bought soap.
My favorite recipe is one that uses palm kernel and olive oil together. It makes the skin very soft.
Avoid coconut oil—it makes good lather but it’s drying to the skin.
My only disappointment was that I was never able to make a clear bar of soap, ‘Neutrogena’ style. It always clouded up on me. But it still worked beautifully, and my friends with sensitive skin LOVED this one for their faces.
Don’t forget to wear goggles, gloves, and a shirt with long sleeves. Lye hurts!
So much fun…I loved making soap. The whole process is interesting. Satisfied the science-geek in me. Only problem is what to do with all the soap?!
Today, I got myself a 3 pound supply of crude soap for shredding! This is a first step :)
