I wasn’t one of those kids whose family took vacations. I live only about 45 minutes from the Canadian border, and have never even been there! So I would like to get out of the country for a while. More importantly, I want the chance to open my own eyes, along with the eyes of international students. I think we could learn so much from each other.

I just accepted a teaching position in Colombia. Ok it’s actually the opposite direction than I thought I would be going but it’s going to be a great adventure. I can feel it!

So here I am spending nearly all my savings going to a big recruitment fair in Cambridge MA in a couple of weeks. Who knew looking for a job would be so expensive. Luckily, I already have some schools interested in hiring me. One actually from a city I wouldn’t mind living in…go figure.

I’ve started applying to schools abroad. Luckily I have 5 years of teaching experience in the states. i’d love to teach in Paris, but that’s out of my reach I suppose. Right now I’m focusing on Northern Africa and Minor Asia and perhaps eastern europe.
I can’t wait to see if this works out!

Everyone advises me not to go abroad. They point out a variety of reasons not to go. But this is something I have in my mind for some years now. And then I ask myself… should I remain conscientiously relieved (and not go) or should I go guilty by conscientiously doing what I desire?

I would really love to do this in the year or two, but random internet searches have not been very fruitful. It seems that most places I find need a special certification, but I’ve talked to other folks that say you don’t. Also, it seems like the vast majority of opportunities are in Asia (which would be cool, no doubt) but I was wondering if there was any chance to teach in Europe, South America, Austrailia etc.?? Basically, what’s the best way to get the wheels turning on this? I’d love any advice you might be able to offer.

i WAS all set to student teach abroad, but then some funding issues arose, and i needed to buy a computer instead… life gets in the way. grr rar. i’m willing to bet that if i still really want to dig in and do it, i can and will… it’s a matter of where life takes me, and what my priorities bring me to. but i still really want to do this… it’s been on my personal list since the eighth grade. and that’s a really long time.

sure, it’s worth doing anything abroad, but a note to others and my future self: it’s best to find a company/place that doesn’t feel like you’re selling your soul at work. with that said, being abroad kicks ass.

Really worthwhile and has given me a new dream to complete my teaching qualification and continue travelling and teaching.
