How to watch Lost in Translation

How I did it: I never expected to or particularly wanted to watch this film. I think I saw a snippet of it when my Mum was recording it and it intrigued me. So i decided to watch it. Even though the quality wasn't great because it was recorded it is an amazing film. The sort that gets you thinking and you just want to watch it over and over again (although I always want to watch a film a thousand times after first watching it, drives my boyf mad!). Anna Faris was really good in this movie! She’s got comedic chops to spare, and I can’t wait to see “The House Bunny.”

This doesn’t really have anything to do with the movie, but I was at the library a couple of days ago and saw this knitting book that has the pattern for a Lost in Translation scarf. I checked out the book just for that pattern and it is the next thing I plan to knit…I just need to get the yarn for it.
When I first watched this movie, the scarf that Scarlett Johansson’s character was knitting really caught my eye since it was also around the time I started knitting.

The movie starts slow and somewhat pointless, but that’s exactly the point: the characters’ disorientation in the alien environment of Japan. The movie then picks up, especially in the way the romantic tension between the too main characters keeps increasing. Their attraction to each other becomes so strong, yet the movie never gives in, and doesn’t end in the classic “happy ending”. Neither of them tries to seduce the other ostensibly; they are just drawn to each other… Bill’s whispered words in her ear at the end when she cries are the quintessence of their experience: “I’ll always remember the past few days with you, don’t part mad”

i’m so glad it won the Oscar—it is amazingly perceptive and subtle
