so, my trip to NH did not yield any lye as I had hoped. However, I did find a goat milk soap making class in November & e-mailed them to sign up for that. The best part, all the supplies are included so I won’t have to run around and look for random ingredients. Very excited.

Lye, essential for making soap, is not allowed for sale in my state… thankfully, I live in New England so other states are really close by and you CAN buy lye there. They apparently don’t fear their citizens judgement enough to take it off the market in our neighboring states. Or maybe they’re going with natural selection and trying to weed out some of the weaker specimens through chemical burns… I don’t know for sure. Either way, I’m going to be in the land of “Live Free or Die”, where I can buy my lye… and fireworks… and firearms… those crazy neighbors to our north have it all. So let the soap making commence in 2 weeks!!!

We made soap during chemistry lab classes, 11th grade I think. If I recall correctly, the main ingredient was pig fat. It worked, it was fun to do. It didn’t smell very nice (we didn’t add any perfume) and didn’t foam either. But it did clean your hands.
