I really need an external hard drive for my music, as that will free up over 30GB!
A tip for anyone using iTunes: Make sure your files are in AAC format. iTunes has a “convert to AAC” option, and then you can just delete the larger version. If you have a lot of songs (I had 5000+) in bigger formats, doing this can free up A LOT of space… it was like 10GB or so for me. I can’t even hear a difference in the sound quality, and I’m very picky about that.
Got myself a nice little removable drive, and I copied my entire music collection there. I am also using it to digitize all of my pictures and important documents, which I can lock in an encrypted file.
This has really helped take the strain off my laptop. I can actually save the documents I need now. Definitely worth doing!
I decided to scan a huge shoebox of old pictures and to digitize all of my music CDs. I am only a fraction of the way there, and I just clogged up close to 80GB out of 100GB on my laptop. The rest is taken up with programs and whatnot. I have to get myself an external drive pronto, or this thing will just seize up on me from sheer overload :(
I figured out how to consolidate my itunes and I moved it to an external, so I now have 38GB available on my harddrive and everything is organized into folders! yay!
So here’s my problem. I have a mac and I love it to death. I have final cut studio on my computer that takes up about 40GB of my 100 available. I’ve removed all applications that I don’t use. Now, I use iPhoto and iTunes like crazy. I have like 20 GB of photos and 35GB of music. I don’t want to move all my photos off my comptuer onto a harddrive cause I like using iPhoto and everything is organized very nice. Now I’ve thought about moving all my music onto an external…so I’ll have everything on my iPod and on the external…but I’m thinking that will make my iTunes go crazy. I have everything organized into album playlists…like 300+ of them. Any tips on how I can do this without messing up the strucure of everything. Oh, and the only downfall to this I’ve found is that if I’m traveling and I can’t have my harddrive plugged in I have no music on my computer….but I guess that’s what the iPod is for..hmm.
Tips?
P.S. I have an 80GB firelite drive and a 250GB firewire but that’s like half filled with my videos.
I’ve freed up as much as I can. I don’t currently have access to my external hard drive, so I’m just going to have to complete this goal over the summer.
I got a low disk space warning today and almost had a heart attack when I could barely see the sliver of “free space” on the memory pie chart.
I just freed up 14G by uninstalling programs I don’t use anymore.
Next step is to transfer my video files and photos to my external hard drive.
I only have 55.8G of storage, which surprised me. My iPod has more than that!
i cleared up 15 gigs or more a couple of weeks ago …. but …. Shane and I kinda got hooked on Warcraft, and that took up 6 gigs. i am still trying to clear off more space on my main hd, after that i am going to backup all of my music off of my other hd then delete the albums and only keep my ipod music on it
