I just checked to see how far away East Stroudsburg, PA was from me. I’m in northwest Indiana. The drive would take all day and well into the early morning. By the time I got there, I’d need a full day to sleep, and I wouldn’t want to drive back anytime soon. A plane trip to East Srtoudsburg just doesn’t seem like an option either. I can’t base an entire vacation around this. Why does it have to be in a state that people only drive through to get someplace else?
I actually saw Frazetta’s gallery when he had it down in Boca Grande, FL, but I still want to see his new museum. I’ve seen a lot of painting, and I’ve done a lot of painting. I’ve seen some Van Gogh. I’ve seen most of Dali’s work in St. Pete, and he was really really good. But Frank is the best painter, not only of our generation, but of our century for sure, and I’m not sure if I’d even be stretching the truth saying he’s the best painter in the history of our planet. His paintings are tiny. He uses extremely thick paint. His detail and control are unmatched by anything I’ve ever seen. I’ll admit, I was not a big fan until I saw it. It was a humbling experience. If you haven’t seen it yet, and you live anywhere near East Stroudsburg (nearest city is NYC), you have to see it. You won’t know your place as a painter until you do. I had a chat with Larry Elmore a few years back. He still hadn’t seen it. Damn shame.
Frank’s daughter and her family are very warm and welcoming. If you go, please pass on my best wishes.
