When I was in 10th grade, I had been playing the flute for 7 years. There were times when I really wanted to stop playing it but my parents always convinced me not to stop doing it and I’m actually really happy about that. But about half a year ago, when my flute teacher moved away and because I knew that I was going to America two months later, I decided to stop playing it and now, I haven’t been playing it for about 8 months or so.
But because it is actually fun and I like playing the flute, I definitely want to start doing it again, at least when I’m back in Germany in half a year. I also want to go back to my school’s orchestra in Germany that I had been playing in for 4 years before i came to America.
I love playing the flute and I actually only realize that now that I haven’t been doing it for quite a while. I don’t want the time that I spent practicing etc. to have been for nothing.

They say that every day you don’t pratice is equal to 3 days of not practicing on the flute. I haven’t really played in 4 years… so that’s going to sound awful! I still have my flute from when I was really good in high school, so hopefully when I go home over the summer I can set up a practice schedule and get back into it. I miss playing those beautiful pieces… I can hardly stand to listen to classical music anymore because I miss it so much! Hopefully I can get back into it.
Like many people, I first started playing the flute in grade school and stayed with it until high school, when I traded in my instrument for pom-poms (shame on me!) in a silly attempt to get boys to notice me. I never really picked up my flute again. Twenty years later I learned to embrace my inner band geek, so I exhumed my flute from its nether-storage, bought some new sheet music and paid a lot of money to have it overhauled, only to have it stolen right after by my disgruntled house painter who sold it for drug money. I was so heartbroken I couldn’t even think about it for several years. Now I’m hungry to take it up again, but it’s been so long since I’ve even played a single note on a flute, I’m not sure I even know how anymore, which could make trying one out at a music store a little embarrassing.
If I’ve learned any lessons about the care of my flute, it’s this: Next time, paint my house myself.
Dawn is relaxing after a long day at work!
Mom bought us a flute so I can start playing again. (actually she bought it for my daughter, but she wants to wait until next year to take band, so in the mean time, I can play it) All I need to do is get some sheet music!
I bought one two days ago for $30 (what a steal!) and I’m practicing everyday. I’m a little rusty and sometimes I make ugly sounds, but the point is that I’m getting better…right?
