Penpal: Maintaining communication 3 months ago

When I left InterPals, I gathered the e-mails of 6 people that I was talking to and made sure I wrote to them all. After about a month of waiting to see how many people were going to respond, I got a total of 4 responses. I don’t know if the e-mails to the other 2 got lost in their junk mail or not, since we were talking regularily on the website, but as far as I’m concerned I’ve done all I need to do in regards to them. This left me with 4 people to try and stay in contact with.

It took me quite a few weeks to finally sit down and respond to all of their e-mails, but I made sure I did. I’ve been trying to respond at least once a week, because I have a bad habit of letting my personal e-mails build-up, becoming overwhelmed by them, and then letting them sit for weeks/months on end. So far so good, at any rate. Like I stated in my last update about this, I plan to stay in e-mail communication with these people for awhile, see who I hit it off with, and then start writing letters.

I think it’s better to get the bulk of introductions and getting to know people out of the way via e-mail because it doesn’t hurt your wrist as much. Writing by hand can be such a pain in the ass sometimes.

the main reason that i am trying to become a member of this site is because all my friends told me how incredibly fun it is having a penpal from a foreing country so i desided that i wanted a to have just as much fun as they have…........

Penpal: Tying up loose ends 4 months ago

I got as much out of InterPals as I could possibly stand for the time being and ran away with it. I was going to completely delete my profile, but I decided against it, just in case the people that I am currently in contact with don’t quite pan out. I really didn’t want to have to bother starting from scratch and have to try and find a different penpal website along the same caliber.

I ended up meeting 6 very interesting and different people from around the world (England, France, Japan and Finland), and a load of complete creepers and weirdos. I ended up with 18 people on my block list because they were either being inappropriate or completely ignoring my requests. There were a few more people that I didn’t bother blocking and simply deleted their comments, so it’s safe to say about 20 people contacted me that I could have seriously done without.

All in all, it wasn’t a terrible experience. It was certainly frustrating, though. It made me consider on more than one occasion to just not bother trying to find a penpal. However, I’m currently in e-mail contact with those 6 people, so I get to see now who I get along with and have enough in common with to start the actual snail-mail penpal process. At first, I just wanted to find someone to write to. Now I’m kind of digging the whole process of meeting different people (since I’m such an anti-social loner, this is new territory for me) and conversing with them before I start to write directionless letters.

I suppose I should keep up on this and respond to all of those e-mails that have been sitting in my inbox for the past week.

Penpal: Trudging through the mud. 5 months ago

I registered on InterPals a few days ago like I said I was going to. It essentially works the same as Facebook; it features a profile, photo albums, messaging system and wall. As such, I think a lot of people tend to use it more as an online-only social networking website, as opposed to actually using it to find real penpals. There’s a big emphasis on finding “e-mail penpals”, which I can’t help but find hollow and lazy.

There seems to be so many sketchy people on there, too. I can’t count how many people have completely disregarded my requests on my profile and just messaged me with a “you has a beautiful sexy world” or some crap like that. It almost seems like everyone is either looking for luuurve or to lure you to their country so they can kidnap you and sell you on the black market. You never really know with people over the internet.

After I’ve sifted through all of the crap, deleted ignorant message and blocked the people that clearly don’t read my profile, there are some genuinely neat people on there. I’ve found one snail-mail penpal from England so far, and I’m talking with a few more people from England and Japan. My original need to find just one snail-mail penpal has certainly expanded after going onto the website; there’s just so many different people that you have the opportunity to learn so much about different cultures. Maybe I don’t mind the laziness of an “e-mail penpal” as much as I thought I did…

I’m going to write to my prospective penpal this week, and just like last time, I’ll consider this goal completed once I receive a response and write my second letter.

Penpal: The first dead end. 5 months ago

It’s been 4 weeks since I wrote my first letter to my new penpal in Brazil, and I haven’t heard hide nor hair from her. I’ve commented on her journal and sent her messages to let her know that I wrote to her, but I haven’t heard anything back. I know she’s been around and online, so I’m going to start looking for a new penpal and call this one a dead end.

Now that I’ve had the time to think about it, I really don’t want a lolita penpal. Not saying that I wouldn’t accept a lolita as a penpal, but I don’t want that to be the reason we write to eachother. The fashion really isn’t my life; it’s just one of a million things that I like. I would hate to base a potential friendship off of one superficial thing.

I would ideally like to find a penpal from a country I plan to visit, for obvious reasons. The thought of having a penpal from North America strikes me as a little boring, although I might consider it if they’re far enough away. The exciting part about having a penpal to me would be the possibility of visiting them, and it would be just that much more exciting going somewhere new and different. At the moment, I want to find someone from either England, Egypt or Japan, because I want to visit those countries in the future.

I’ve found a few online sites, and so far InterPals seems to have the nicest layout and greatest ease of use, so I’m going to give it a shot and see what I think of it.

Penpal: Introduction. 6 months ago

A little part of me has always wanted another penpal, but an even larger part of me was far too lazy and unable to commit. I had a penpal when I was younger (hi, Aurora), and it was always fun having something to look forward to in the mail. I don’t really remember when we stopped writing to eachother, but I always sort of missed it. Now that I’m pushing twice the age I was when I had my first penpal, I thought it would be nice to do again.

I wasn’t really sure on how to start, so I looked for a penpal based on really specific interests, so we would always have something to share. I really enjoy the Japanese fashion style lolita as one of my various sub-fashions (if you’re not sure what the fashion is, please read this: http://www.lolitafashion.org/what_is_lolita.php ), so I found a girl from Brazil on a lolita penpal journal about a month and a half ago.

Now that I’m all settled up north with my mother and my extremely cute stationary from eBay has arrived, I finally wrote to her, and mailed it yesterday. I’ll consider this goal completed when I get to write my second letter to her.

I´d like to get penpals from all around the world (mostly from Asia). It doesn´t matter how old you are, are you male or female or what´s your sexual orientation.

I´m interested in music (especially Japanese music), weapons, paranormal stuff etc. etc.

I´m a little gloomy, but I also have a good sense of humor (mostly I like black humor and sarcastic jokes).

I despise racists and shallow people.

I don´t smoke.

If you want to know more about me, feel free to send me a message.

Thank you and have a nice day.

Yours sincerely,

A

PS. If you want, you can also send a letter to this address:

Anniina Lindqvist
Annikintie 4B 23
28370 Pori
FINLAND

PPS. I´d appreciate that, if you wouldn´t use my real name, “Anniina” (I hate it, because it´s way too girlish). Thanks.
