How I did it: I am finishing up living in France for a year as an au pair. I decided when I was in my first year of French in high school I had to come one day. 4 years later, I took a college level class, and there was a list of ways to live in France in my textbook--including au pairing. I spoke to my teacher about it, and two months later I had a family to live with and a plane ticket. Read how I did it…
How I did it: Went on a very long trip, rented a house, and lived there for a few weeks. Going back next year again, with the same group of friend. Enjoying the beach, the wine and the scenery Read how I did it…
How I did it: I used all the resources I could find on the internet to research study abroad programs in order to find the one that fit what I wanted. I started planning early with plane tickets and applying for my visa. I already had a passport so that part was easy. I asked people that had been before questions and asked the company questions, and everyone I knew questions. Read how I did it…

How I did it: I did it the old-fashioned way. I married a Frenchie (and then as is the norm in France we divorced.). Anyway, there was nothing much to it, you fill out some paperwork, and then get a job. Read how I did it…

I have lived in France, both when I was 9 for four months while my parents took long service leave, and I attended school. I then spent a year abroad as part of my degree in 2006, so I feel this calling based on these events. I want to challenge myself to work in a different language, and live in the country longer term (longer than a year for sure!)

Ok this is something I really want to do. I really want to live in France. I am a dreamer…but at the same time I am not stupid.
I know that its expensive and its not going to be easy to get in the country. I also know that because I am still in school it will be difficult to finish school, pay off my mortgage, pay off my car and go to France at the same time. So… I think what I will do is in the meantime i will try to learn as much french as i can by taking courses at my University. I might go back to Europe once more to do some reserch about how i can live there.
After I finish university…I will have to help my family pay off this house and my car so I will stay in canada for another 5-6 years. Maybe I can even try to find a Job in Quebec that way i can also practise my french there. Then at this time i will be around 35-36. Then I will try to apply for a working visa…by then I will have money, a job, I can speak french, and have good enough credentials that a company would take me in. Hopefully i can work/live in France for a good 2-3 years. In the meantime if i like it there enough I will even move there..and try to immigrate there.
But the only problem is my family…I hate to leave my mom behind. She’s going to be so lonely if I go….but then if i stay I am going to be so miserable.

I need to live in France before I die. I love the language, the culture and the romance. I want to find out if it is everything I have dreamed it to be in my head. I want to determine if it is somewhere I could stay for a long time.
I am thinking about studying abroad in college, but what I really want is to live Hemingway-style, just drinking, writing, going to clubs and drinking coffee at cafes with sunglasses on.
i have really wanted to live in europe for a few years now. i ended going to sydney australia instead about a year and half ago with a study abroad program for 5 months – HUGE mistake. it was not the experience i was looking for what so ever for a number of reasons but i think mostly it was not the culture i was looking to surround my self with. i came back to the US thinking i would never want to do something like this again. it has been about one year since ive been back and recently i cant seem to stop thinking about how amazing it would be to have a few months in france or barcelona. i feel as though i am just so drawn to it…i love meeting europeans, watching french films, trying to speak spanish, the music, the food, the culture…
and so i want to live in france for 2/3 months initially and see how it goes :P
