played for 5 years at highschool and was well on my way to studying it at university… but then i got bored. that’s what happens to me.
now after a year of not playing, i miss it so much, it makes me so sad to see it all by itself with no one to love it and play it. so i’m going to start playing again so it feels better about itself.
how selfless i am!

ladybird excited about 2010 resolution on 43T :-)
my piano from my childhood and teen ages, my trusted friend!! i actually hugged it when it arrived to my home (and noone was watching) – presence of my old black pianino completed me on some profound and long forgotten way.
i got it tuned and it got THAT sound again – sound i thought was gone forever. now is at my fingertips whenever i please… aahhhh what a luxury!
i played from my old scores: debussy, chopin, liszt… and noticed those scores are easier than i remember! YEAH
Anyone out there know of any piano teaching software for Mac OS X? I got myself a MIDI controller, so all I need now is teaching software that’ll get me on track.
I disliked like it when I was younger, but now that I’ve matured a bit, I’ve taken quite a shine to it and have even managed to become my current instructor’s best student.
I didn’t enjoy it as a kid, but I loved playing music anyways. I went through a lot of instruments, but they were all missing something. Most instruments are made for playing either harmonies or melodies, but very few can give you the pleasure of playing both at once to culminate in a complete sounding piece. I have come full circle to the piano. My teacher has me on this Adult Piano Adventures series, and I am loving it. I think this series is really well written and for whatever reason they make me feel like I am progressing quickly.
I’d gladly do this if I could find the cord for my keyboard! I’ve sent my dad on a hunt for it, so hopefully I’ll have it soon. Hopefully.
At school I was known as “The Entertainer”, but moving into my career (radio and television broadcasting) I just either lost interest or ‘didn’t have the time’ for the piano. I bought a fairly new Yamaha upright six months ago but also never touched it much (it has also gone out of tune with the good rains we have had in Namibia), so now I have sold that and bought a cheap digital piano. I was expecting to be disappointed but for my purpose (‘Just the Way you Are’, songs of George Gershwin, etc) it’s fantastic – the little drum track really makes a difference. And I spent a few lovely hours last night on Scott Joplin – my favourite is ‘Gladiolus Rag’ – there is just something so satisfying about those chords and that gently rocking bass line. Personally I like to ‘mess around’ a bit more with the rags than most professionals – they sound so bored! So for me it’s ragtime with a romantic rubato! Anyhow – very satisfying – can’t wait to get home tonight and play some more. And the other nice thing of course is that I can use the headphones after 23:00 so the neighbours won’t complain.
