How I did it: It saved my life - I can work in cafes and its light enough to carry around! Netbooks are the way to go! I went online looked at netbooks and then bought one which fitted what I wanted. Top tip- matt finish on the screen not gloss. Read how I did it…
How I did it: 1) Researched online for what is out in the market2) Consulted techie husband on what he recommended buying3) Made up my list of what I need from the laptop (mid sized screen, low weight, non-awkward keyboard, webcam, good processor, price $500-$800, etc)4) Shortlisted candidates based on online research5) Visited a store to test all the probables (J&R in downtown Manhattan has great selections)6) Re… Read how I did it…
dweird1 is trying to find 43 things for my list. lol
How I did it: I had been saving for a while and once I had decided on which one I wanted I went and bought it. Even though there were other things I could have used the money for a laptop had been on the list longer than anything else. Read how I did it…
luzvilla is doing the do.
How I did it: i had needed to buy a laptop for about 2 years now. i moved out of the country, got rid of my old gateway one cos it was sluggish and bulky... plus it had +5 years on it. wanted to save to get a new one, but decided to eff it and just charge it to my credit card. its a macbook and its vv well worth it. How I did it: I got a 12 months, no interest deal. When the term comes up for settling in 5 months, I'll settle the whole bill outright with some of the money I am saving in Korea. It means paying £50 more for the laptop, but I don't mind having to pay a 10% premium to have the computer for 12 months, no money down. Plus I needed it for work and for keeping in contact with the folks back home and elsewhere around the world. Read how I did it…

I did it.
I purchased my first laptop… post-college.
My current lappy still works… it just can’t keep up with the demand. Photoshop, Lightroom, Dreamweaver… I am constantly running out of hard drive space and getting “memory low” errors. It’s also taken to freezing when I try using too many instances of IE7. It’s been great for the last 4 years… no viruses, no major issues. I just need something faster.
And so I did it. I bought a new laptop. It goes against everything I believe in… normally I wait until things die before I buy something new. I’m not an impulsive shopper.
I did a TON of research before making my purchase. Can’t afford a Mac… so I was torn between Dell and HP. HP had a lot of great qualities… Dell came better rated. I settled for a Studio XPS 16. It should be powerful enough to handle my needs. It should be delivered by my birthday.
I was seriously considering the Studio 15. I love the color purple… so I was tempted (do not sacrifice quality for color!) I ended up finding a XPS 16 for a similar price- after almost $500 off the original price.
I hope it was a good choice!
I placed my order last night, so hopefully in the next couple days my new laptop will ship out!

Right now our only computer is a laptop that we got around two years ago (maybe?). We splurged extra on it because we have lots of pictures and music and other stuff that we use on it… if I’d known how quickly this thing would deteriorate, I would’ve insisted on the cheapo model.
Sooooo… for one thing, it can’t be closed, because the plastic casing around the hinges is busted. This is through no fault of our own… the company sent us a notice that it’s a flaw in the manufacturing, and since so many people are having this problem they’ll fix it for free. That’s cool. Except the wireless card in this thing died around the same time the casing broke. These things both happened within a year of owning the laptop, and since then we’ve essentially had a very small, compact desk top computer.
So fast forward about 8 months… now other parts of the computer are dying. First, the #2 on the number pad to the right went dead, and now that enter key is also dead (I’m waiting for the rest of the number pad to slowly go). Then the volume went… no more listening to music or videos on this thing. Just in the last day or so, I’ve noticed that random patches of the screen, around the size of a pencil eraser, black out randomly for several minutes, even if I switch web pages.
We’re already shopping around for a new laptop, and waiting for the back to school sales. We’re planning on staying away from HP laptops this time. This is the longest ranting post I’ve done in a long time! I’m just mad that I spent so much money on this thing that is dying too quickly!
So I got a laptop last july and unfortunatly, I destroyed it in less then 6 months! But now I have a better one and I got warrenty with a good deal and derability so it’s good.
Gingerbread_Girl Is celebrating getting old.
...it was only a matter of time. My poor hand-me-down laptop that has more air miles than I do has finally keeled over and died.
I think I’ll use my over-time & commission and get one after we get back from holiday.
I’m stunned how lost I feel without it. Maybe one of my ‘things’ should be ‘spend less time online’...

Last 2007, I bought a $893 laptop. It was a very cheap brand but I like it because it is the cheapest among 12-inch laptops at that time. After a year the LCD got busted. Too bad it was already out of warranty. When I sent it to the service center, the attendant told me it needs an LCD replacement that costs $297. I don’t think paying $297 is practical so I gave away my laptop to my sister and she’s using it with a monitor at home. 2009, my goal is to buy a new laptop because I need it especially for my kind of job. This time, I’ll make sure it’s durable and not that expensive. Hope I can have the money in 2 months. *crossing fingers
