They call UU congregations and the “religion” at large the “church of last resort”. That is usually because you will find many people who have been hurt by other organized religions and their dogmas. Inside there is a mix of wonderful, loving, truth seeking humans willing to share their love of science, spirituality, and friendship in a non-threatening environment. I would not trade this for anything.
How to attend a unitarian universalist service
How I did it: I made it a point to take advantage of living in a larger town and attended a service. Found a local group that looked like it could be a good fit. Planned a day to go, then stuck to it. It was a great experience overall. Still deciding if it's right for me.
Lessons & tips: It's like any other gathering of people you don't know yet. Just take a deep breath and try it. Your expectations will vary depending on your prior experiences with spirituality.
Resources: The Web site for the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations was helpful in locating a congregation in my area.

snarfie is tired.... very, very tired
this is our goal. i hope we can do this b/c the church accepts and teaches about all forms of faith and i want my girls to be exposed to these ideas at a young age.
I listened to a podcast of a service. It was really cool…it was about how you can be an atheist and still be religious. This Sunday I should go. I’m nervous though…what if I see some people I know there that I don’t want to see because I flaked on a project they asked me to do many years ago?
i took a day off of work just to go but didn’t have someone to go with so i chickened out. i hope to complete this goal sometime soon because i bet i will love it.
one day!
Serafina Longarina is an extraordinary machine.
I went to my cousin’s coming of age ceremony at a UU church. It was a really interesting experience. He had to write a “credo” of what he believed in, which in his case was basically that God doesn’t exist. It was a strange concept to me that he could belong to a church without believing in God. His views have changed since then, though. Anyway, the service was nice and the church was beautiful.
