How I did it: I bought an A4 ring-bound, black covered sketchbook from an art store so I'd have decent paper to sketch on. And a set of 12 Derwent pencils.
with a sketch of a mad hatter rag doll. It’s really nice to look back through all those sketches and see how I’ve progressed. 16 months ago
sketch to go and I will have completely filled my first sketchbook!! 16 months ago
because I felt like it. It’s very unusual for me to feel like doodling. I like solid references to work from. On some level I know this is a lack of confidence or trust, either in myself or in the process. So today I took advantage of the rare mood and let my pencil go wherever it felt like.
I ended up with 3 interesting character sketches, 2 of which I feel a real fondness for. They’re somehow familiar to me. One of these days I’m going to look back at them and suddenly realise what recess of my memories and experiences they were drawn from. Art is a funny business. 16 months ago
Reynard the Fox. Life does not get better :)
I am thinking of returning to beetles tomorrow. Can’t let them have the last word.
Only 3 more sketches ‘til my first sketchbook is full! 16 months ago
I have discovered I am much better with drapery and fur than with beetle carapaces.
Only 4 more sketches until I have filled my first sketchbook! :D 16 months ago
